Choosing OOP books
Choosing OOP books
I am using LHTH and would love to use the OOP Playtime Devotions, but there is no schedule on the site for them if you have the newer teacher's guide. I know it is OOP and there are new options but does HOD plan to keep an alternate schedule for the previously used OOP books on its updates page? With options like Ebay and other sources to acquire OOP books, will there be an opportunity to choose whether you want to use the new options or the old options and schedules made available for the books that are OOP if you choose them?
Without the availability of a schedule for the OOP items on the updates page, I have been scouring the auctions for older versions of LHTH to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help in answering my question.

bump
I have posted this question several times and in a different manner each time and have gotten no reply. I would really like to know if schedules will be made for the OOP selections that HOD has previously used if we choose to use them instead. I have heard such good things about Playtime Devotions and Small Talks that I want to use them. However, I am leery of purchasing them without a schedule to go by for LHTH.
In this day and age, it isn't hard to get things that have been out of print for 20 years on Ebay. I know I can get both OOP books right now if I want to. The only problem is that I don't know if the schedules will be made available to me to use with LHTH without my also having to scour Ebay for an earlier edition of LHTH which I don't need b/c I have the newer one. I just want to use the older devotionals.
I can't be the only one wanting to know if OOP book schedules will be made available when each new edition of the guides come out. LHFHG is about to be revamped b/c of this and I am sure a lot of people who preferred Singapore Earlybird Kindergarten 2a/2b would be interested in finding out if the schedule for it will still be available in the future should they be able to and can find it. Uncle Wiggily was really easy to find and a wonderful book. I have the schedule b/c I bought LHFHG this year. It's schedule won't be available with the next print. I still have a younger child. What if something happened to my copy of LHFHG (it is possible I do have 4 children and I could misplace it accidentally in the 3-4 years before I need it)? Would I be able to get a copy of the schedule for it from HOD?
This is why I am asking this question. I personally would love the option of being able to use OOP books and being able to get a schedule for them from HOD. Will any of the schedules for OOP books be made available by HOD in the future?
Is anyone else wondering this or planning to continue to use OOP selections or choosing to use OOP selelctions?
Thanks in advance for any help with my question.

Re: Choosing OOP books
Val-what are oop books?
The update s to the curriculums are available free n the website-you can click on the PDF and print out,so if there were changes in the future to LHTH or LHFHG then you would print the update .I bought earlybird in advance -so it is ready fro Stan, but even so I am not worried because it will always be usable with the HOD updates.
Im not sure you can get backdates and I can see why Carrie would update when a book goes out of print.Carrie sells the packages and could not do that if she had to secure a stockpile of second hand books- even if the customer was willing to purchase a second hand book.So I can see why Carrie would update.
I know my LHFHG was printed with the Uncle Wiggly bedtime Stories ,and I am now using the updated pages for Jerry Muskrat. For me -Uncle wiggly can be bought but at twenty times the price of Jerry Muskrat. Jerry Muskrat was free to ship from amazon and Uncly Wiggly would have cost an additional shipping
Sometimes it is possible to find the books cheaply -I think I picked up small talks with God for 20 pence, but often the picture is as with Uncle Wiggly- that its totally unpredicatable and has the potential to be something which considerably would increase the price of the whole curriculum.
HTH-all though it doesnt answer your questions

Re: Choosing out of print books
OOP means out of print. I just wish that the schedules for the out of print books were still available should you choose to use them. Instead of having to search the internet for previous editions of LHTH to have the schedules, I am hoping that the schedules could be made available for those who wish to use them the same way the updated schedules are available to those who can't obtain the out of print books.
We have lots of book stores that have used and out of print books available in the city I live in. I can just pop up the road and get Playtime Devotions or Small Talks or I can look on Ebay and find them. My son just really won't listen to the Big Thoughts for Little People and he will sit in my lap and let me read to him from the CLP nature book even and sits and listens to the Thornton Burgess books with us. He just really isn't into it that devotional and ABC Bible Verses hasn't worked either for him. I want to do Playtime Devotions and plan to buy it for him even if I can't get a schedule. I just would prefer a schedule. If I have to I will search the internet for a LHTH with the Playtime Devotions schedule, but I really don't want to buy an extra guide when I purchased a brand new one already. The cost of ink and paper to print a schedule would greatly outweigh the cost of me purchasing and bidding on a previous edition of LHTH on the internet.
Knowing now that I can't get a schedule for Playtime Devotions off the schedules updates page, I would have probably chosen to purchase my copy of LHTH used rather than spend the money to purchase a new copy and be unable to use the Playtime Devotions schedule (b/c it is unavailable to download off of the site) with it.
I would not expect HOD to carry the used out of print books or to include them in their reprints. I just wish that should I choose to use an out of print previous selection that I could get a schedule for it similar to the update schedules that tell you Unit 1, Day 1 pg. ___-___. I love Playtime Devotions and would love to use it instead as it goes with the key idea in LHTH instead of just the letter they are studying for the week. My 2 1/2 year old won't have anything to do with Big Thoughts for Little People. I have tried many ways. He just doesn't want to even listen to me read it.
I love HOD and I love LHTH. My son does not love Big Thoughts for Little People. I find it terribly frustrating that I would have to purchase a whole extra guide to get the schedule for Playtime Devotions, but if that is what I must do so be it. I just don't see why the schedule to the devotiionals for the out of print books can't be made available as a pdf for those of us who would go to the time and trouble to find them should the new devotionals not work out for us.

Re: Choosing OOP books
Hi Val,
Every once in a while, when the Board is quite busy (especially at this time of the year), a post or two will get "lost in the shuffle" and it will not been seen by many. I know from experience that HOD certainly strives to answer any questions and concerns, and would never intentionally ignore a post from anyone. Also, during this time of year, many homeschool publishers are attending conventions and traveling a great deal. As a result, many questions from Forum members have to sit a little longer before being addressed. Please don't feel like you are not being heard, I know everyone here is very important to HOD.
At any rate, I have the earlier edition of LHTH and would be happy to send you the schedule for Playtimme Devotions so that your little one can enjoy his devotional time. Please let me know if you would like me to send the information and I will do so as soon as possible. I was looking for my LHTH guide a few moments ago and it seems to be hiding from me at the moment, but I am certain that I will find it in one of my many stacks of books!
Please let me know if you would like the schedule, and I will happily send it to you!
Candice

Re: Choosing OOP books
Thank you. I really appreciate the offer and have pm'd you.
I know I was asking about a particular out of print book and I am so grateful that you will be able to help me. I do wonder if there will be any policy regarding future out of print books and availability of schedules for them as I go up through the HOD guides. I know that a lot of time and effort are put into choosing replacement curriculums. I am not faulting the replacement texts. They just are not working for us and I would like to know the general policy of availibility to acquire schedules for previously used OOP books should you wish to use them instead.
I would hate to face the decision as we go through of choosing whether to buy a new copy or to purchase one on auction or used just because of one out of print book that I really wanted to use.
That is my main question. Will HOD ever supply schedules for the out of print books should we wish to use them?
Val
edit-I am so grateful for this board and all the ladies. Thanks for helping me out when I needed it. I am so glad that I found this program and this forum with all of the wonderful ladies and/or gentlemen.

Re: Choosing OOP books
Val,
We have just returned from convention in North Carolina after being gone for a week and are working through catching up on the board, emails, and phone calls right now, so I'm just getting to your post. The North Carolina convention went until 9 p.m. the first night, from 8:30-8:30 the next day, and 8:00-4:00 with tear down until the evening hours the next day. Since we are often so busy that there is no time to eat at the convention, we walked to eat supper somewhere each evening after the convention ended between 8:30-9:00, waited to be seated with many other convention attendees and then finished around 10:30 still having to walk back to our hotel. With flying back on Sunday with 3 connecting flights (due to Northwest and Delta merging) we flew all day on Sunday, leaving little time for us to answer any posts on the board. I do think I have answered several of your other posts on the board recently and in the past, so we're certainly not ignoring this particular one.
In order to keep confusion to a minimum as to which books are required for each of our guides, we will not be listing replacement schedules on our website for out-of-print books that are no longer available or scheduled within our guides. There has never been a downloadable schedule for Small Talks About God or for Playtime Devotions as they were just scheduled within the original LHTH guide and went out of print, being replaced by Big Thoughts for Little People and My ABC Bible Verses. So, there is no downloadable schedule that I can give you even if you desire one.
I'm so glad that Candice has found a solution to your question and is willing to type out the schedule for using those books each week for you from her older copy of LHTH. While I did deeply enjoy and love the two previously scheduled devotionals in LHTH, we've also had wonderful feedback about the replacement books. We've used all of the devotionals scheduled in LHTH with our own kiddos and each has its own strengths. Either way, the devotionals, while an excellent supplement to LHTH, do not change the overall excellence of the LHTH program. We pray you'll enjoy LHTH as much as we have when we used it with our own sons.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Choosing OOP books
Val, thanks for posting this question. I was in the same boat. I already own Playtime Devotions and when I saw LHTH had used it in the past, it seemed a perfect fit. I really wanted to use Playtime Devotions as it's so easy to do with babies and then all three of my girls could have some school time together. Too fun!
Thanks so much to Mike for sending me the link to this thread and this board. I really appreciated such great customer service. Thanks to Candice for sharing the reverse schedule with me. I think HOD is going to be such a great fit for our family. This board is so positive and helpful, we should be able to overcome any obstacle and be able to share the fun for this year. Can't wait to start.
