LHFHG...older siblings helping?
I think we will be starting LHFHG next week (when the box arrives
). I'm wondering if anyone has allowed an older sibling to teach one part of this program to a younger? My oldest dd (9) loves to help in this way. I was thinking about the Science or math box, but open to suggestions.

I may not be the person you want advice from since I am not btdt, but I can say I intend to let my older dd's age 9 and 7 teach my younger dc- currently 2 4 yo's and a 2 yo from LIttle Hands to Heaven. (if I can find it cheap enough that is).
My older dd's love to 'do school' with them, the 4 yos co-operate with them for it, so I Think it will work well. I haven't lookd much as LHFHG yet, but have lookd through LHTH, BLHFHG and BHFHG, and I don't see why the olders couldn't read history to the younger, or read story time to the younger, or do the poetry area with them.... I think it depends on where your older child/children are excelling, what their strengths are, and how co-operative your youngers are, where their skills are.... I am not going to have my 7 yr old teach handwriting to my youngers- because, my youngers become frustrated with handwriting or one, and 2, my 7 yr old still gets some reversals. My oldest doesn't do as well as I would like on writing assignments, so she won't be leading those..... Of course, I will be supervising- either have htem near me to overhear all, or I lead 1 lesson a week to 'check up on' the progress etc....

Re: LHFHG...older siblings helping?
I have been afterschooling with LHFHG with my 6 yr old ds for a little while now. My 7 yr old dd sits in on it with us for history, science, and storytime. She does her own handwriting and such. She has taken over reading for me in the history book before and she has helped him read with his beginner reader (he is almost an emerging reader). If I was going to let her "teach" one part of it. It would be the history read aloud. I would of course read it too and have a checks and balances where I knew that my younger dc was taking it in and absorbing it. Not questions or quizzes, but somehow have a general conversation about it (maybe at dinner or snack time). I was in the room at the time she was helping him dealing with my 2 year old and doing the dishes, but she did a wonderful job and it raised her self-confidence a bit I think.
I wouldn't do math b/c it has some really great little exercises to do with them and I include my 7 yr old in these. Games similar to Mother may I but always they reference God I can't remember the name of it now but instead of Mother may I or Simon says it has a biblical reference. I would think it would be more fun for you 9 yr old to just join in on these than to "teach" them. You do workbook pages, but there is also a lot of hands on days where you don't do a page from the book but learn from the exercises.
I would definitely say the history read aloud. I would say storytime, but that is just too much fun with the Thornton Burgess books for you to miss out on
.
Hope this helps,
Val
