Field Trip for Beyond!

1st some background......we started Beyond less than a month ago and are moving through it slowly to stretch it out until the fall 2010. After we finished week 2 (Jamestown) our son was in the car with dh coming home from his workplace. They passed a huge road sign "Jamestown." Ds read it and exclaimed, "That sign said Jamestown....Jamestown is HERE?!?" (Never mind that I had told him that when we started reading about Jamestown.) Dh said that it was, and ds's immediate response was that he wanted to visit. Of course, I already had a field trip planned, but the weather has been very uncooperative (read: RAINY) until today. Beautiful crystal clear blue skies, moderate temps, and low humidity. Off we went--my eldest, youngest, and me. What a great time we had--visiting the ships, fort, and Indian village. But ds's favorite? The giant map outside the visitor center--he could walk the route and point out where we live on the map. He LOVES finding places on a map or globe (thanks HOD!) I'll try to post some photos of our day.

Pointing out where we live on the map (totally spontaneous--he was telling his big brother all about it.)

C'mon mom, let's go to the fort!

That looks like so much fun. It reminds me of my school field trips to the Georgia Agirama when I was a kid.

Oh how wonderful. We are reading Once on this Island which takes place in northern michigan. Maybe this summer we can drive up and visit the old fort.

Isn't it great to live near historical sites? We live about 30 miles north of Philadelphia and about 10 miles from Valley Forge, so we are surrounded by colonial history sites! Your trip looks like great fun. You'll love Beyond, by the way. We are in week 26 and still love it as much as at the beginning, if not more.

That's so cool that you live close enough to visit! What a great experience, and so fun!

Ooh, I'm so jealous that you live close to these wonderful historical places.

We are looking forward to vacationing at some of the early American history spots that you ladies are so blessed to be near!

It looks like you had a wonderful time at Jamestown. I get goosebumps thinking of how much history is available for us to take in!
Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Carrie
