Ahhhh----we love finger plays . . . finger plays are usually little rhymes or catchy tunes or poems acted out with your fingers -for example "Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people . . . close the doors, hear them pray, open the doors and the all walk away" sorry--I can't show you the hand motions, but most people atleast know the first part of it. There are books and books with fingerplays--lots of fun

Tracy,
In LHTH, the fingerplays are right in the guide for you. Carrie has them written out and tells you what actions to do (sometimes with your hands, sometimes with your whole body). Most of them in LHTH are just little rhymes. If they go to a tune it tells you which one right under the title (like
Skip to My Lou, If You're Happy and You Know It, Jesus Loves Me). The finger plays in LHTH help the child remember the letter sound you're focusing on, and give the main ideas in the Bible stories for the week. My kids LOVE them!

Hi Tracy!
Fingerplays are basically just singing songs (courtesy of HOD, brilliantly done!) with adding some fun and joyful hand (and facial expressions!) motions to really make the songs/material come alive.
Imagine
Itsy-Bitsy Spider... with your kiddo's fingers/hands/body super involved in the fun.
Fingerplays just invite the kiddos to really jump in and use their whole body/minds/imagination to wiggle, dance and enjoy the learning experience. Super memorable for the kiddos, and the mommies, if I do say so myself.
I believe that one of the great strengths of HOD is the use of fun fingerplays, as the kiddos really connect with this style of interaction. It's like school time turned "fun time".
Enjoy,
Candice

I'm so glad you got your box, Tracy!

I bet you are having fun seeing what you get to do with your little ones. I love irishcookies, Kathleen's, and Candice's descriptions of them, and I cannot say it any better than they have - so I'll just share that you can find all of the fingerplays after Day 1 of each unit in LHTH, in case you hadn't found them yet.

Have fun with LHTH - we sure did!
In Christ,
Julie

Everyone has done a great job explaining them to you. My son loves the fingerplays!
you can find all of the fingerplays in the Appendix of the LHTH
Actually in the fingerplays in LHTH are included in each weeks plans. They are usually right after the plans for the 1st day.

Thanks for catching that, Stephanie! That'll teach me to type when I'm sick.
