Pendleton Wool

Post by Lindy S. » Mon May 11, 2009 1:58 pm

I had signed up to receive some free educational materials from this company a couple of months ago. We just finished BLHFHG Unit 7 day 1 and this was a great teaching tool illustrating wool making! Great for those kinesthetic learners! I just had to share for those of you who like to plan ahead! I'm not so good at planning ahead so when things just fall into place like this - I just LOVE it! By the way, I just started this program 7 weeks or so ago and am loving it! Thanks so much a great curriculum Carrie!

So what is it that you ordered? I will be starting BLHFHG soon. I am guessing I would need to order now. :D

I ordered the booklet about the wool making process and different types of wool. I also ordered the "Eight Steps in Woolen Manufacturing" which includes actual pieces of wool (pre-washed and carded), washed wool, carded wool, a little vial of lanolin, thread and actual woven cloth! It's a great visual and we were able to feel the grease on our fingers after touching the unclean wool! It really led to a great discussion to Christ's blood washing us white as snow! HTH.

Lindy,

I'm so glad that you're getting a chance to enjoy Beyond Little Hearts! :D My boys loved the activity on wool too. It looks like you found an interesting additional resource that matched well. What fun!

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you for the link to the Pendleton Wool sample.
I had forgotten all about ordering it and my dh never told me he got it in the mail. God is so awesome. He so cares about the little things. I went into my husbands office to pick up something and found the samples in his office the very next day we studied about wool. The children were so excited to see this and actually touch the real wool. It was great, because we did the activity the day before and now we got to also see the real thing. I love all the activities in the guides that keep it simple and easy to understand for the children. You don't need anything fancy so even in that the Lord allowed us to actually do the hands-on activity and than have the visual.
So for anyone else who would order this, I would recommend not to use it as a replacement for the activity in the guide since that was great fun to do and the children understood it as well.
