Can someone tell me if I am using the Bigger extension pack, does my child do the regular program plus the extension books. Eg) Eggleston books + Story of America? (I think I read that somewhere on this board) Also, the extension schedule, can someone who has the book give me an idea of how much reading is scheduled each day?

Thanks,
Shannon

My 4th grader is doing Bigger with the Extension pack books. Yes, you are supposed to do the extension pack in addition to the basic program readings of Bigger. The extension pack usually amounts to a History reading each day of two or three pages of CSOA and/or a chapter in one of the living history books (The Buffalo Knife, Once on this Island, By the Great Horn Spoon...). In addition to that for history, there is a weekly Science reading using Exploring Planet Earth or The Story of Thomas Alva Edison. That weekly reading usually amounts to a few pages in the text book, or a chapter in the Edison book.

My daughter has enjoyed all of her readings, especially the living books. Exploring Planet Earth, she could do without  , but then, she's not so fond of science!

Hope that helps!

My boys do the extension plus listen in on everything else. My one son LOVES Planet Earth. We just started with HOD and Bigger in January and he is just about finished with the book! However, he LOVES science! Their extension reading doesn't take them more than 30 minutes - if that.
