Hello!

I'm new here. I'm looking and using LHTH over the summer with my 2.5 yo and my 5yo. My question is, has the user guide been updated lately? I have a friend who's sister has LHTH, but I want to have the most current guide to use since the catalog says books have been replaced. Would it really matter to use an old guide? Thanks for your help!

I don't think using an older guide would matter. The site has updated schedules for replacement books used in the guide. You just print them out. When I got my LHFHG though, they sent printouts of the updated schedules to go with the guide for the replacement books. I'm sure LHTH is the same way. You would get a printout of the schedule for the replacement book or you could go online to the site and print one yourself.
This is another thought though, you can always try ebay for out of print books. I found one of the storytime readers on ebay that was out of print for just a few dollars including shipping. It is just a thought.

Thank you, Val. As it turns out, her sister is still using it. So I'll need to buy my own. Do you know, have the guides been updated then, or will they still list the old books? Thank you!

LHTH has been updated to include the schedules for the new devotionals.

You'll have a great time doing LHTH with your little ones, I'm sure. We've had just a wonderful year!! So much fun! And, so many warm memories!

Thanks, ladies! So do other stores have the updates ones, or will only HOD direct have the updated version? I'd prefer to get the one with the updates already in there.

We are also planning on using "Preparinig" with our 3rd and 5th grader. I have heard a lot of positive feedback! I have not decided for sure about it, but I'm pretty close to choosing it.

Just a little help with getting your alphabet. The website below has it ready with Upper and lower case. It's free as well.

I ordered it and it came! Happily, it did have all of the updates. Now, I am wondering if anyone has a list of supplies needed for the program, such as:

tempera paint
masking tape
crayons
etc

I really do want an "open and go" program. I like to plan and prepare everything before we start. I'd like to get all of my shopping done and be ready to start within the next couple of weeks. I also like to make all of the copies before hand.

Another question, I don't understand what the pages with the numbers are for? Like after day 1, there is a page with a "1" on it. Is that for some purpose?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

There are some pages in LHTH that you will copy and have your dc complete with you. Number pages, color pages, counting pages. The page with the 1 is planned in the guide as a math activity or something to that effect. If you read through each of the boxes, you'll see where each one fits in.

I'm finishing up LHTH now (we're on Unit 28 this week). For copies, you'll need to copy the "number page" (there is one for each of the 1st 10 units), the "hide-and-seek letter page" (every unit), the "color page" (in a few units towards the end), and the "count on me" page (in the appendix - you need one per unit). You'll also need to copy the flash cards from the appendix. If you have 2 kids doing LHTH, you'll need 2 copies of everything but the flashcards. I made all my copies at once and then paperclipped the things that were alike and stuck them in a folder.

For supplies, I've found that they really truly are things that I have around the house. Carrie usually gives several options so if I'm out of one thing, the other is available. You'll need tons of masking tape. Washable kids' paint (you will need black for the 1st unit - I had to buy that separate),paint brushes, liquid glue, glue sticks, scissors, crayons, construction paper, card stock (I like to use this when I draw the letter for them to glue or paint on once a week - paper would work), glitter, spices, liqud soap, cooking oil, bar soap, pudding, chocolate syrup, pasta, dried beans, cotton balls, yarn, blocks...

If you read through the first 5 units, that will give you a good idea of most everything you'll need as the letter activities rotate every 5 weeks.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in LHTH. I know you will, too!

Sara - you are going to have a lot of fun doing LHTH with your dc! Kathleen did a super job of describing what you'll need, and I second her idea of reading through the first 5 weeks or so of plans. If you have those supplies, you'll pretty much be set. Several options are given for supplies usually, and 99% of the time I had one or the other. On the rare occasion I didn't have something, it was super easy to sub in something (like if the suggestion was Cheerios, I'd sub in cocoa puffs , or if the suggestion was cotton balls, and I'd sub in cotton make-up removers, or instead of vegetable oil, olive oil, etc.). I truly never planned for teaching LHTH. Have fun with LHTH - it is a great start to homeschooling.

Julie, I spoke with you at the convention here where I live. You were so helpful. Thanks again for all of your time. We're looking at Preparing for our older ones, and will be doing LHTH over the summer with the youngest ones. It should be a great year! I don't have the LA and books choices shorted out with Preparing, so I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. But I am excited for this coming school year! And excited for a fun summer with the tots!

Look at Unit 1 Day 4. Under the "Bible Activity" Box, it tells you what the Number 1 page is for. You'll do that same thing once a week for all the numbers 1-10. The next one is explained on Unit 2 Day 1.

Thanks, Sara! I'm so glad you're getting excited about a plan for your dc. We just finished Preparing today! What fun we had with it - in fact, my ds just gave me a hug and said, "It was a great year, wasn't it, Mom?" It was. I'm sure you will enjoy PHFHG as much as we have.
