need book suggestions

Post by Tansy » Wed Apr 29, 2009 8:30 pm

I'm planning a trip to the Boston Area And My sister's Kids and I and my Kids are going to be doing the freedom trail.. Plimoth plantation, Paul Revere ride.. etc...

Before the trip Were visiting the churches in that support us (3 states worth) and I want to fill the kids "stay quiet while we talk to pastors goodie bag" with historical stuff. so when we see the old north church they go "Mom that is the old north church." and when we go to Fanuile hall they point and say "Mom it's a grasshopper.".

I'm looking for suggestions on books or games.. any help? toys..

What about a scavanger hunt of sorts? Think about things they'll see and you want them to remeber, and maybe some fun easy stuff, like someone walking a dog, a bird in a tree, an American flag. As for quiet stuff, maybe a note book, some pencil crayons and have them make a scrapbook of sorts and they can draw a picture for each place you visited? Write a letter to a place you visited telling them what they enjoyed?

Have a great vacation!

I think I may need to be more clear.. before our visit to Boston... My kids will have to endure being ignored and or totally spoiled for 2 weeks. they will also have to be very good and very quiet... perfect little angels... were missionaries and when we visit a church/family we never know will it be a "they need to sit down a not say a peep till we are done talking to pastor" or... will they be "carted off and stuffed full of sweets and in general be spoiled" place. It is 2 1/2 weeks of minimal face time with Mom and Dad, who have huge expectations on their behavior. Never being home, moving to a new place every few days, Mom and Dad having morning meetings, lunch meetings, afternoon meetings, dinner meetings, and maybe even a church service thrown in for good measure. So when we aren't in meetings were in the car or on a plane..

For the hush be perfectly quiet obedient children places. I make goodie bags and I wanted to fill it with stuff they are going to be seeing at the end.. a reminder of the reward to come... and to prep their little minds. Tho I do like the idea of making a scrap book on the fly... I don't think I can pack the scissors on the plane..

I'm glad were only doing this once every 2 years now... when we come home they have to be deprogrammed.. poor kiddos.. but we can't go with out them. So we all endure together.

I was hoping for historical fiction or graphic novels about the revolutionary war and pilgrims that would capture their imgainations.. there is plenty out there but I wanted good stuff

any suggestions?
