Preparing w/ 6th Grader and Writing?

Carrie and others who have gone before :) , I am pretty sure this has been answered before - more than once - but I'm having a hard time finding the complete answer to this question. We are completing Bigger Hearts in a few weeks (and couldn't be happier with our year :D ). I have been having my dd-11 do Extensions with narrations daily. She has been doing great with written narrations this year. I haven't had her doing any other writing program, which I now realize I probably should have been. So....for next year with Preparing Hearts with Extensions for her (6th grade - 12 in Oct.), should I add in another writing program in addition to R&S 5 and the written narrations with her Extension reading? Or is that enough writing for her age? I don't want to overdo it and writing is one of those subjects that take a lot of time - she puts a lot of time into her written narrations - but does that cover enough aspects of writing - like the creative side? Thanks for your help!!

Glad to hear you've had a great year, Tiffini! :D I think if you are doing written narrations along with the extension, doing R & S Grammar 5 :D (which is a rigorous program that uses writing to learn grammar), and doing the creative writing lessons in PHFHG (as well as all of the dictation, copywork, notebooking, lab reports, etc.) - I think that's enough. That's just my opinion though! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Tiffini,

I'm just chiming in here to agree that the combination of written narrations, along with the creative writing from poetry in Preparing, and Rod and Staff English will give your 6th grade daughter good, solid writing coverage. She'll also be doing writing through copywork and dictation and writing throughout her notebooking and other assignments. Then, as a 7th grader she'll move into Write with the Best along with CTC, which will work well. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Great! Just what I needed to hear to put my mind at ease. And a mind at ease is a good thing! Thanks!
