Hi!
First, I just want to say how great our God is, because HOD is an answer to my prayers. My family will be new to HOD. I am very excited about using HOD for our upcoming school year. I am still deciding on which book or books I need to begin with. I was wondering if hands on math activities were provided in the BHFHG Appendix to go along with the corresponding workbook page for Singapore's 3A/B workbooks? I noticed the block pages offer hands on activites for Singapore's 2A/B workbooks and it refers to 3A/B being in the Appendix. Also, I wondered what type of cursive is used in the Cheerful Cursive workbook? There are so many types of cursive and there are a few I'd rather not use. I looked on Cheerful Cursive's website, but couldn't find any sample pages. Lastly, Carrie suggests having more than one child in the same book. However, 2 of my children are on completely different levels (one being at LHFHG level and the other being at BHFHG level). So, is it realistic to do this type of curriculum at two different levels with two different children? Or is it best to move one up and one down to do BLHFHG, since the basics I can arrange to be at their individual levels?
Thanks!
Kristen

Re: Math in Bigger Hearts for His Glory
Hi Kristen,
Welcome to HOD. I can answer your math question as I have the Bigger guide (planning on using it this year). Singapore 3A/3B is scheduled in the appendix for Bigger, but not with the activities like in Singapore 2A/2B. It uses both the text and the workbook for the 3 level. It is totally realistic doing two programs at 2 levels, I am just finishing up LHFHG & PHFHG this year. I plan on doing 3 next.

Kristen,
Welcome!
I whole-heartedly agree that HOD is an answer to prayer in our homeschool journey, too!
Carrie has done such a great job through the guides of helping me as I desire to teach my kids first about the Lord - and inspire them to love Him. The discussions that the guides often lead us to just feel like such a natural way to pass on my faith to my kids! (Besides the fact that they're so easy to use and cover everything solidly!)
I would say that if you're kids place in LHFHG and BHFHG, that's the best guides to use with them. It's very doable to do more than one program. I think that placing them where they fit actually makes teaching easier on you! There are lots of moms here who have used those guides at the same time and find it easy to do.
For math, Carrie has written hands-on activities to go with the Singapore books through level 2B. After that (starting with 3A), she schedules the use of the textbook (which has pictoral examples) and the workbook. Have you used Singapore's placement test? Here's a link to the tests that you can print off to have your child take. It also tells you how to score the tests.http://www.singaporemath.com/Placement_Test_s/86.htm
Here are a couple of pictures of our Cheerful Cursive book. My little guy's least favorite thing to do is handwriting...and he's really enjoyed Cheerful Cursive!
His writing has been GREAT this year (in my opinion!), too, so I think Cheerful Cursive is wonderful because it's been a good tool for us. It has slow steady pracitice. It has the child write in cursive from print, print from cursive. When you get to capital letters, it shows them different ways that they can be written so they'll recognize it. It uses a traditional, but non-frilly approach. (How's that for a technical description?

Kristen - Welcome to the HOD Board!
Ditto to what Kathleen said!
Accurate placement just makes everything go smoothly. If that is where they place, then that is what you should do. We've done several HOD guides for 3 years now, and it's not hard to do. We followed the placement chart and have had such fulfilling homeschooling years together. I actually think correct placement is the key to making the year the best it can be, even if that means doing 2 guides.
Oh, and I have to put in a plug for Cheerful Cursive - my ds loved it, and he basically learned it independently since I was on complete bedrest most of that school year. He only needed that 1 year of cursive, and his cursive still looks good now. It can't get much easier than that!
In Christ,
Julie
P.S. Thanks for posting Cheerful Cursive pictures too, Kathleen. (Help me remember this link when people ask about samples.

Kristen,
The ladies have done a great job of answering your questions!
I just wanted to welcome you to HOD and to the board. We're glad to have you here.
In discussing placement for your kiddos, it would help so much to know their ages and to also know where they place on the placement chart individually. Here's a link to the chart, if you haven't had a chance to go over it yet. Link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php
Pay the most attention to the first page of the chart when making your decisions. Then, if you get a chance to pop back in and share your thoughts that would be great.
Blessings,
Carrie
