Which program to use LHTH or LHFHG?

Alright I have a 5 yr. old who is delayed in learning and I was planning on doing LHGHG next fall (he will be six then) at half speed with him, but now since we have welcomed our newest edition, Hartley to our family a month ago. He has actually gone backwards! He is being tested for Autism this spring, but for now I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I know adding a baby to a family can make kids regress some, but this is different than that. I can't quite say how, but it just is. I think doing LHTH would be to boring for him again next year. But at the same time he still doesn't know the ABC's and hardly writes anything. I am not sure he will retain a whole lot of what we do, which is why I was planning on doing it at half speed. Also I am feeling very guilty about the fact that I get school done with the older ones, but hardly do anything with the younger ones. I almost feel like they are getting ingored right now. I know it's a season in our life right now, but why do I have to feel so guilty about it? UGG so much going on right now!
Sheila mom to six blessing from God! Love all of them so much!

Sheila,
Just want to say I understand...we are right there with you! With our 7 week old in the mix, things do get pushed to the back burner. And my 5 yo is acting out some. Hopefully you can get the other issues figured out soon because you don't need all the stress.
I agree that it's a season in our lives, and though I feel guilty too for not doing 'enough', I have to tell myself that I
will get back to normal and it's okay for now. So try to give yourself a break.
I don't think I'm much help with your choice, but I will tell you that we are planning to complete LHTH before moving into LHFHG, so we will probably start K in the fall with my (then) 6 yo finishing up LHTH. It's not what I planned but it's where we are!

I'm sure others will be along with some great suggestions. Hang in there, and enjoy your many blessings!

Sheila,
I think I would continue on with your original plan and move him toward LHFHG at half-speed when you return to school. At half-speed you can't expect the same retention you'd get at full-speed, however it will most likely suit him time-wise and attention-span wise best in the beginning. I do think that moving toward a K/1st type program (like LHFHG) makes us (as moms) devote more attention to the little ones, as it's a reminder that they are school-age and are going to require more time from us than they did when they were in preschool. Anyway, this is something that I've found to be true at my house and within my own thinking!
Blessings,
Carrie

I'd continue you with your plan to do LHFHG half-speed. Each time I finish LHTH with one of our dc, I mentally have a switch in my thinking when I begin LHFHG. Not that LHTH isn't wonderful, it just feels younger as it should. LHFHG is the mark of "real school" in my mind, and once I begin that, I always dig in and devote time to that age more. I agree - it is super easy to always be schooling to the older dc - but you are wise in recognizing that soon those younger dc are the older dc, and that plan doesn't work anymore. I'd say make the switch to LHFHG next year, and you'll probably naturally be devoting more time to ds - I know I did!

Plus, you don't need to feel put on hold by this diagnosis. Who knows what will come of that, and when you'll truly have answers about that? In the meantime, moving forward will just make everyone feel like life is not on hold but instead is just moving ahead happily.

I know I've felt that way when we've had health concerns, moving ahead has kept me motivated and kept the dc "moving on".
In Christ,
Julie
