Help! I can't figure out what we need to buy

Hello,
We are thinking of switching to HOD but I am very confused at this point. Of course, I'm a little sleep deprived right now (another story - we have new triplet baby goats) so I may just be missing something that is really obvious.
I am still trying to figure out exactly what it is I need to buy - I am a little confused after the economy package. There are basic and starred items and deluxe and ... Is there somewhere that lists everything more clearly? For example, for LHFHG you need this... and then shows everything you need in one list? I am sure I am just missing something, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what exactly I MUST have and then what is optional! I need both Bigger and LHFHG.
I am looking forward to using this - we have 4 in school right now (4th, 1st and 2 Kinders) plus a 4 yr old, 2.5 yr old and 4 mos old. I really need something I can just open and do - what we have been using up until now is way too time intensive for planning and we are not getting anything done!
I would also love any input if there is anyone out there with a lot of littles who are doing 2 different packages. I'm feeling overwhelmed, and I'm hoping that HOD helps me fix part of that
Thanks in advance for the help.
Gina

For LHFHG, look here on page 6 of the PDF file:
http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/little ... -intro.pdf
and for BIGGER, look here at pages 8 and 9:

Is that what you were looking for?

7/9 maybe this will help. I'll give you a few examples. instead of writing a book I'l post them indivudally.
I want to do LHFHG for first grade and I want it ALL! I have Zero school stuff at home.
I buy a
Economy Package and get a guide history books, skills book and read-alouds.
A Basic package for first grade and choose a science, choose a math i get the devotional and music cd.
I choose a bible I like family time bible so I buy that one.
And My kid was doing Italic last year so I buy the Italic B work book.
My child Still needs a phonics program So I pick Reading Made Easy.
Now I have every thing to do This program

Ok I did say a few examples..
Senario #2 I'm a Homeschooling mom with plenty of stuff in the house but I'm Not happy with it. I have a reading program that is working, and the church bible memory verse are what we learn every week. Our math program is running ok but I want more for my kids. We actually own the family time bible. O look in my shelf I have the Devotions book as well. I also own a printable hand writing program so I don't need that either.
I Buy:
The Economy package
The world God made or My fathers world for science
And I am done.

Senario #3
I have a bunch of stuff and I have a 5 and a 6 year old. One is in first and the other in kindergarden.
I buy
The economy package LHFHG
Choosing The Do it Carefully for my kindergardener and I add an extra Thinking Skills to my cart for the first grader.
I buy a basic package choosing the 1A/1B singapore math for my first grader and add an extra Kindergarden math to my cart.
I prefer My fathers world science so I just pick that one.
We have both bibles so I don't need them, and I don't like either handwriting choice. So I don't buy them. I have a phonics program so I don't bother to buy those either.
Now I have all I need to school both kids together in the same guide.
math and reading will be done seperately, but everything else can be done together. i still need to provide a handwriting program.
Clear as mud?

Ok here goes a Bigger example.
I want to have all the stuff! I don't already own anything want to use for this grade.
I buy The economy package with Science (totally worth extra 53$ btw)
I have an independent reader so I buy:
Drawn into the heart of reading DITHR (this is a one time purchase 2-8th grade).
Lvl 2/3 student book (consumable)
Take home book projects
and I highly recommend the optional book list.
i choose Cheerful cursive, and buy the hymnal and little pillows. My kid loves grammar so I get the preparing to build english.
My child placed in 3a/b for singapore so we buy those.
I have a girl child so I pick the girl interest books for our read alouds.
this package does not come with books to read with DITHR I will either use books from the library or ones we have or buy.

Ok last post
I have a bunch of stuff in my house I just want the basics since we have a math program and we have plenty of good literature around the house. I don't believe in grammar at this age and I have an emerging reader that needs more practice. I also have leftover science from a previous purchase I feel guilty about not using.
I buy:
The economy package after reading all the science testimonials on the HOD boards, I decide to buy the extra science package.
and put my old science stuff up on a auction site.
I buy the emerging set of readers with the early readers bible.
I buy Little pillows and Italic D. I decide since I splurged on the science and my kids laugh when I sing, to skip the hymns, heck my Hubby teaches them piano I think I can skip Music. I don't need any more read alouds I have plenty so I don't buy those either.
Do you see how every family has unique requirements... which makes this program so flexible. Yet being so flexible does make it so its really confusing.
the easy way is to buy everything, but if you are a penny pincher and have stuff you want to use you are not required to buy the WHOLE program but just the pieces you need.

Tansy,
Thank you SO MUCH for those posts!!!!!! I can't begin to tell you how much that helped me figure out what I need!
I could find our scenario mixed in a few of those, so it finally made sense. We DO have math and handwriting already that I like, but not much else (I am on a fast track selling off what I had from the other curriculum so I can start fresh).
Now I'll just wait and see how the packages end up being discounted in the next few days and I'm ready to go!
Again, THANK YOU!!!!
Gina

Ok, I'm confused again!
I went in to look for a few things and I can't find them:
"Choosing The Do it Carefully for my kindergardener and I add an extra Thinking Skills to my cart for the first grader. "
Where are these at?
And am I correct that if I order the Basic package for first grade, it includes all the books listed under it? So I don't need to order any of those separately?
These must seem like stupid questions, but for whatever reason I am just not getting it quite yet

Ok, here is what I have picked, pending package discounts coming soon. If there is someone who wouldn't mind looking it over and telling me if I've either left something off or duplicated something, I would appreciate it!
I already have math for my 4th grader and DITHR manual/workbooks that I found used. I need math for the 1st and Kinders and phonics for both - I want to switch from what we have. I also need science for everyone. They are all girls so I decided to spend the money on the Girl interest set. I want to teach the 1st and Kinders together as much as possible (the 1st reader is not that much ahead of the others. She can read, but is struggling). I am not going to worry about music right now - I'll add it in this summer once the rest of the basics are working smoothly. My 4th needs help in grammar. I think that is it!

Hi Gina! I read your posts, and your order looks exactly right to me! Way to go! Now the hardest part is over, and you can just enjoy your boxes when they come. Isn't Tansy great? That was so nice of you to lay it out that way - it makes both the structure and the flexibility of HOD so evident. Anyway, it is very nice to meet you, and from one country gal to another, glad you're here!

do you have math for the kindergardener? You only get one math when you buy the package.
Also if your child is in 4th grade you may not need the BHFHG Extension pack. that is for 5th and 6th graders tracking with the 3/4 grader in the same guide.

Not stupid questions!
http://www.heartofdakota.com/rod-staff.php
here is the thinking skills book inside the package you can see kindergarden package then under fine moter skills is that link for you to add the first grade thinking skills if you click on the yellow book it will take you there.
the only thing you need to order separately is the work book for the higher grade. The nice thing is that you can order things separately when you only need one of them.

Gina,
You've done a great job of compiling your order.
The only things you need to add are the Rod and Staff workbooks D and F for your kindergartner doing LHFHG. You also will need some sort of handwriting for your K and 1st grader. You may already have that covered but I just wanted to mention it. Tansy gave you the link for Rod and Staff. Here is the link for the Handwriting options:
http://www.heartofdakota.com/handwriting-k-a.php

In order to utilize the extension pack, your 4th grader will need to be a good independent reader. If that's not the case, you could forego the extension pack or choose to use it as a read-aloud, but it isn't required.
Hope that helps. The ladies on the board are so great about chiming in to help, aren't they!
Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks Carrie, and thank you for your input. I am getting excited to actually have a curriculum that we can finish in a day!
My 4th grader loves to read, so I thought I would do some with the group as read aloud and some she can do on her own. If they seem to difficult for her, we can use them as a group.
Again, thanks for your help, and for putting this curriculum together!
