The kids really liked it! We didn't even read a particularly interesting selection and they both were engaged and interested. Granted it was new, but I wanted to make sure the style would suit since we'll be reading two Eggleston books next year. They are so ready for more details and this book is going to provide some great meat. I love the way the book emphasizes personal character and choices as well.

I'm so glad that your kiddos enjoyed the trial run of Eggleston! He does a wonderful job of giving interesting insights into the famous (and not so famous men and women) in American history. I must admit that while reading them, I learned all sorts of new details I'd never heard about many of these individuals before. The details stick with you too, since Eggleston tells them in story form! The readings get more fascinating as you go.
Eggleston does take a bit more mature listener, so it may take some kiddos a bit of time to grow into the readings, however they're are well worth hanging on through as they have such staying power in the long run. I must admit they are much different from the beautifully illustrated, but very unmemorable, history texts I studied in my growing up years. Those were eye candy all the way, but I have little to no recollection of what I read in them.
Blessings,
Carrie

That's great, Patience!

Eggleston was a hit at our house last year too.
