Another question...Deluxe PKG and Extensions for Preparing

Ladies,
I'm sorry. I have another question. I am in the middle of making my book list for next year. Am I understanding correctly, that in Bigger my soon to be 4th grader reads the extension books independently as part of History. He uses book pack books for DITHOR that are different from the extension. Then the preceding year in Preparing, he does not read the Deluxe Package books. Those books would be for my younger ds to read independently with history. My older ds will only read the extension books for Preparing? Or Is he supposed to read both the Deluxe books and the Extension books for Preparing?

Thank you for all your help. I am sooooo excited about using HOD next year! I am digging into my Guides and getting ready for next year.

Blessings,
3musketeers

If I am understanding you correctly, you have it right. The Bigger extension package is additional reading but the Preparing extensions substitute for the deluxe package, which is the independent history study. Many people use the Draw Write Now book for both, however - it is awesome!
It's quite a testament to the program that we are all so excited about next year when we haven't even finished this one. :P So much for spring fever!

Kathy,
Thank you for the reply. I'm glad to have that confirmed. I know my ds's would both love the drawing. I'm glad to hear they can easily both join in on that.

Blessings,
Cindy

Hi! :D

The 5,000-Year-Old Puzzle: Solving a Mystery of Ancient Egypt, Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood, Little Miriam of Galilee & The Trojan Horse are awesome books & my 2 dd's really enjoyed them. Maybe you can find them at your library if you don't order the package. We really love this program! We are in Unit 28 & still going strong. Your gonna love it too!

You've got it all figured out, 3Musketeers! :D We are finishing up PHFHG too, and just like Georgette said, you are in for a great time next year. Kathy - you are so right...

I was just thinking the same thing as I am getting excited for CTC! :D

Julie,
You've got it all figured out, 3Musketeers!

Great! I wanted to be sure I didn't add books from next year to this year or skip books from this year thinking we were using them next year (i.e. Pedro's Journal). Because, I am planning for the long run with HOD!

We are soo excited about HOD that I have already begun Emergent readers with my middle ds. We have also scrapped most of what we were doing with SL hist. and science and replaced it with God's Wonderful World science recommended in BLHFHG and added notebooking. I also began the ds's on Bigger's and Preparing's spelling lists/dictation. The boys are loving school again!!!

We will wait until August to completely get started with all of BIGGER. I am so grateful to find a curriculum that is so close to my own teaching style. I am a Charlotte Mason girl all the way! Then coming from a teaching background I still have enough traditional in the mix, as well. I can't tell you just how much HOD was what I was searching for. (Sorry so sappy, but so TRUE!)

Blessings,
3musketeers

HOORAY! It is wonderful to hear how God is working in your home through your teaching your sons. I could have written your last paragraph - so true. A gal can never be too sappy when she's happy, right? It's the sad sappy that drives others nuts sometimes. Thanks for sharing how it's going - what a joy! :D
