For those who have used HOD how do you work out the different guides. Next year I will have 1 child in a 5 day guide and 2 in a 4 day guide. We only do math and reading on the 5th day of the week. We have our outside PE, social event, homeschool (group) bible studies, etc. on the 5th day. How is the last 30 days of the five day plan accounted for? Do you take it into the summer? If I did take it into the summer, I would then have 30 days left for 1 dc and the other 2 dc would have completed their guide. How have you moms worked this out?

I havent' taught 4 day and 5 day programs together. but my kids are moving through their 5 day programs at different speeds. My daughter is on Unit 22 in LHFHG and my son is on Unit 16 in BHFHG. My daughter sometimes does 2 full days worth of lessons in one day. My son does anywhere from 1/2 to a full day's worth, depending on how much writing is involved that day. At this rate, my daughter will finish up way before my son. What we are planning is to push through till my daughter finishes LHFHG and then move her straight into BLHFHG. My son will just keep working at his pace until he finishes, then he'll start Preparing at half speed.

I just found out I am pregnant :D :D :D :D :D :D so we're planning to school through the summer with a week off here and there and then take a month or two off after the baby is born. My kids will not line up with their programs. But that's ok, because each of them will be moving forward at the speed that is right for them.

I just started Beyond with my ds today & won't begin Preparing w/dd until our new year officially begins in July. My original idea was that I could *easily* get him 30 lessons into his new year while dd is finishing up her old stuff & then they'd finish the year at the same time. Then I realized that Bigger is also a 5 day program. Sigh. I should be able to get 48 days in before July w/o a problem & then we'll just have to fit in the additional 12 days throughout the next couple of years.

aprilmd,

At our house we just do 4 days of school with the younger kiddos too, and then go 9 weeks into the next school year to finish their guide. This has worked well for us in the past and allows us to savor the pace of the guide without having to double-up. Just something to consider. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I'm going to be doing Preparing (4 day guide) with Grant and LHFHG (5 day guide) with Allison. I'm going to just do Allison 4 days a week and stop when Grant's done. Then, like Carrie said, she'll go into the next school year with LHFHG still.

Thank you ladies.

I just ordered the first part of Bigger and I am going to start my youngest in it as soon as it comes. That will take care of my 30 extra days. Then we will put it on hold for the summer and start back up in Sept. I am so happy (and at peace) that we have made a decision on what to do next year. :D :D :D :D It's official we are going to do HOD :!: :!: :!:
