I need suggestions on what to do.
I have a 12 year old, she will be 13 in July. She is in 7th and will begin 8th at the end of May. We school year round.
She is doing Preparing now. We are beginning Week 5. She is also doing Rod and Staff English and Videotext Algebra.
Should she do Preparing until she finishes, or begin Ancients when it comes out, so that she could finish that at the end of her 8th grade year?

I need to start planning for High School.
Has anyone planned yet?

IMHO, I'd have her complete Preparing, with the extensions. Then you could do the nest guide for 9th grade by using the extensions, grade level math/LA, and adding in a geography course. (I like World History Map Activities by Welch Publishing (or is it Welsh :? ) You could do that plus the American History Map Activities to make it more complete. There's also Abeka, BJU, and Runkle geography...I'm sure there are many more to choose from as well! You might need to supplement the science, I'm not sure though.

Just my 2 cents! There are many wiser than I!

Marsha,

I'd lean toward having her finish the Preparing Hearts guide, as it will actually be good for her to have a solid one-year overview of world history heading into 9th grade. :D I'd add some of the extensions for an older student that we discussed in a previous thread. As a 9th grader, your daughter could always join your other kiddos for CTC and just add a geography course for her geography credit. We will definitely have some wonderful recommendations for you in that area as our own son will be doing Geography his 9th grade year, the same year as your daughter. :D

I would look at adding a writing course for next year in addition to Preparing Hearts, either looking at Write with the Best or The Elegant Essay (unless you already have your writing covered some other way). I would also make sure that your daughter's literature study is in place as that will be a needed skill for high school. So, be sure that you are really utilizing Drawn into the Heart of Reading Level 6/7/8 or have that component covered well some other way. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I have another question. Since she will be doing Ancients next year, should she do Elegant Essay or Igniting Your Writing or just go ahead and do Write With the Best?

Thanks for answering my question.

Marsha,

I would lean toward doing either Write with the Best or The Elegant Essay. Write with the Best covers mainly descriptive writing, so if your daughter has had quite a bit of that already, I'd do The Elegant Essay. The Elegant Essay is a 10 week course that could easily be stretched out over a year to twice weekly sessions. I'm leaning toward doing The Elegant Essay with my own oldest son next year, however it does take teacher presentation time to use. The Elegant Essay could also be used for Freshman comp. credit, so you could wait to do it in grade 9 if you prefer. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
