How much time for Hearts for Him?

I'm trying to plan my schedule for next year and I was wondering if anyone knows about how much time to estimate for Hearts for Him. I know that it is more of an independent program. Would an hour be enough time for mother/child instruction time or will I need to set aside more time. We are going to go ahead and start Little Hearts and Bigger, but I want to get a feel for how much time we will need for all three.

Thanks and blessings,
Kyle

Kyle,

I'm not sure if anyone but Carrie knows this...maybe Julie. Carrie is at convention this weekend, but I'm sure she'll get back to you once she returns.

I believe Preparing... is supposed to take 4-4.5 hours to complete...so maybe that would be a rough estimate for you, although we have not done it yet. I bet some ladies who have will be along to tell you how much time the independent work takes, then maybe you can tack on just a bit extra for Hearts Through Him...

I'm sure that wasn't too helpful but wanted you to know that you may not get a definitive answer for a few days.

Okay, you said that Preparing takes 4- 4.5 hours. Some of this is independent work. For those who have done Preparing, how much student/teacher instruction time is needed. I have 5 kids, 4 of which will be "schooling" and I need to know how to divide up my time. Carrie said that Hearts for Him was very independent. Not that I don't want to spend any time teaching my child, but like I stated earlier, I have to be able to divide up my time realistically.

Thanks,
Kyle Thomas

Hi Kyle,

I have 5 children too (4 of whom I am currently schooling :D ) I am using Preparing this year with my oldest and she is doing a lot independently. I think an hour would be enough teacher/student time. My dd usually reads the history herself and then I have her narrate back to me or I ask questions....no more than 5 minutes. Science narration once a week, 5 minutes, I probably spend about 15 minutes with Language Arts instructions including poetry. Sometimes I do Bible with her to help her come up with hand motions, but this also only takes a few minutes. We use Math U See, so she watches the DVD herself. I will go over it with her if she is not getting it or is having some trouble. Storytime she also reads on her own. We are not doing DITHOR this year but will be starting it next year so I am not sure how much time that is going to take. There are some other times when she needs help with research or geography, but overall I would say about an hour. HTH
