Reading Made Easy vs LLATL
Reading Made Easy vs LLATL
Can anyone share how they compare if you've used both? I've tried so many phonics programs, I really am weary of trying anything else. I liked the phonics program of LLATL but nothing else. I like how they got their own little book to read each week.

Re: Reading Made Easy vs LLATL
We've only used The Reading Lesson. I am very happy with it, my son taught himself to read at 4 and whizzed through The REading Lesson. My daughter struggled with reading and has blossomed in The Reading Lesson. Very early in the book, they read a couple of pages of sounds or words, then they get a page with a picture on it and a short story. The kids love the story pages. Our CD doesn't work (used copy) but everyone who uses the CD loves it.

I looked at RME on line and it looked confusing. My kids hate circling, underlining and everything after a horrible experience with saxon phonics. They hate you coding everything, a 'c' had a 'k' back, accents, divisions, prefies, suffixes, special sounds...everything you can think of and more was coded so coding readlly turns us off. DD eventually said she couldn't even see the words for all the coding. Is TRL like that too?

Here is a copy of the 1st "lesson" for TRL. Each "lesson" is around 20 pages long. you can print out the first 2 lessons and do it with your kiddos and see what you think. If you use TRL, there are some free downloads on their website to go with it.

My daughter puts a sticker on for each "lesson" she finishes:

Re: Reading Made Easy vs LLATL
I can tell you that The Reading Lesson is nothing like Saxon phonics! I used Saxon phonics with my oldest and am now doing TRL with my 4 yo. My oldest did fine with Saxon. He actually went to a small Christian school for K and 1st and I had a friend that gave me her used 2nd grade Saxon, so we finished it. I know what you mean about the coding.
I think it works fine in a school environment...but for us it is totally overkill in the home!
We are not coding anything with TRL. It is simple. We cuddle up on the couch and read a little every day. Ahhh!
And, I believe that this approach will accomplish the goal of teaching my little sweetie to read, and keep the joy in it!
