DITHR at half speed?

Okay, all you Ladies that are doing programs at half speed, I need some help. We are in the first weeks of doing preparing at half speed and it is working great for us. What I am having a hard time understanding is how to fit in DITHR while going at half speed  It is only scheduled on three of the four days of plans so If you follow as it is written at half speed sometimes it is 4 days between lessons. I know that the idea is to spend some time in the books but to me this is to slow and seems a little disjointed. Probably I am thinking about it to much and the children do fine with that much time between readings. I know with all the other books we have going that four days between readings is a long time to remember what you read last. I would love to hear how you are doing it and what has worked for your family. Carrie, if you don't mind sharing, what do you recommend?

I love HOD and I am thankful for all those who have answered my questions in the past and I look forward to hearing how others have handled this situation.

God bless you all,
Durea

I may not be too much help here, but we've used DITHOR 3 days per week and we've never had any issues with the kiddos remembering what happened last. In fact, we were stuck out of the country for 3 months, and on our first day of school, they jumped right back into their books as though hardly any time had passed. :)

In our experience, the books that were read s-l-o-w-l-y (or "savored," as Charlotte Mason would have put it) were the ones that the kids still talk about and remember fondly.

HTH a little!

Good point! I had not thought of this and will be doing DITHR next year with my ds as I do Bigger Hearts half-speed. I think 4 days seems long between lessons. I will probably do DITHR 3 days a week, even though we're going half-speed with Bigger Hearts. We've done DITHR with our oldest ds for 3 years, and I like the 3 days a week plan. You could just pick the days you wanted to do DITHR on - say maybe every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (or whatever 3 days works best - for us we have every Friday off with PHFHG being a 4 day plan) - and then you could just move through the DITHR plans that way. Does that make sense at all? Of course this is just my 2 cents - you could always just try DITHR half-speed for awhile and see if the 4 days between readings is too long or not.

In Christ,
Julie :D

Durea,

The ladies are doing a great job of advising you! :D I completely agree with them. We do DITHR 3 days a week right now, and I find it to be a great fit. That's what I would advise along with Preparing at half-speed. :D

Don't worry about where DITHR comes up in the Preparing Hearts schedule right now (because at half-speed you can add DITHR in on any day pretty easily). Then, when you get to Preparing Hearts at full-speed, your DITHR will already be in place at 3 times a week.

Blessings,
Carrie

Ladies,

Thanks so much for your insight and your encouragement. Carrie, this is funny but I think I just needed to hear YOU say ignore the manuel and chose three days. I'll update you all on our progress in a few weeks.

blessings on this beautiful Monday morning,

Durea
