I have a question about next year?

Post by MamaMary » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:39 am

If you remember I started out doing three programs  and found that I needed to combine everyone into a single unit study. However, I ended up doing several weeks of "Bigger" 7 weeks? (guessing) Next year, I am planning on using Bigger with everyone. Would you start all over again or just start the younger boys and do light review with the child who already did the lessons. It will be 1 1/2 years since Colton did Bigger by the time we start it. What are your thoughts? :?:

I'm certainly no expert on this (calling all experts!! :D ), but if it were me, I would just start at the beginning with everyone. If it has been more than a year since your one son had it, he might remember a little bit of it, but there is certainly no harm in having him go through it again to get into the swing of things.

Mary, I think for the sake of keeping things simple, I'd just keep everyone together and start at the beginning. If he's giving you "the look" you'll know that he remembers it clearly and then maybe he can skip a little at the beginning if needed? The other thing you can do is say, "I know, honey, that you did this before, so I'm counting on you to help me teach these first few lessons to your little brothers. Do you want to act out this bible verse for us? Could you help them with their art project?"

Thank you so much for your great feedback girls. I have to say that I agree. I've been reading your feeback and praying.

Jen, I will do exactly what you said and enlist him to help me. He did it so thoroughly that I know he'll remember. He has beautiful notebook pages and can still talk about it. But he loves to be called upon to help his brothers.

Thank so much :D :D :D

You've gotten great advice Mary. And just keep in mind that it's only 7 weeks. Then you'll be back in the new stuff again with everyone. I bet he'll enjoy having the review at the beginning of the year.

Mary,

I'm agreeing that beginning everyone at the beginning would really help with the overall flow of the program. Tell your Colton that since he's already done the beginning of the program and this is review for him, he can be the helper for the first 7 weeks or so and really "help" train the other boys in the new skills. You could also give him the option of redoing his notebook pages and experiment forms from the first time around or having the option to just add to them (if you still have them from before).

Blessings,
Carrie
