Hello Everyone,

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has posted on my many threads here recently. I have not had time to respond back to them yet, so I wanted to say thank you right here, right now, before I go any farther.

I have officially decided that I will be using HOD to homeschool my son in the next few months. I am VERY excited about it and feel that it is going to work wonderfully for both of us. My son is in a church 4 year pre-school right now, three days a week. He is learning things quite well, so I am going to begin him with LHFHG. I think that is the correct placement for him.

I also plan on beginning his kindergarten year in June or July, even though he doesn't turn five officially until August. I am wanting to teach on a year round schedule rather than a typical public school schedule with all the summer months off.

Here is where I need your help or maybe just your confirmation. I am planning on ordering the basic package and the economy package. That will cover all the star items and check items in the teacher's guide from what I understand. I have a phonics program already, so that is taken care of right now. Am I right to think if I order both of those packages, I am set for a school year???

I have gone over everything and it seems like all subjects will be covered at this point. I am not too sure about handwriting and LA, but I think handwriting is covered in the R & S workbooks, plus I have a lot of handwriting workbooks for my son already. I don't know if children even have LA at the kindergarten level. : )

Anyway, is my thinking correct or will I need more items??? Thanks everyone and have a wonderful evening! : )

Congratulations on your purchase! I just made the exact same purchase last week and I got my box today!! There are a few things you may want to get in addition to what you purchased. One thing would be one of the Children's Bibles listed for this guide. We already have 101 Bible Stories here, so I did not have to purchase that seperately. You do not have to purchase one of the children's Bible's. You can use your own Bible, but I do think that at least for my dd, the children's Bible is easier for her to understand. Also, there is some handwriting covered in the Rod and Staff books, but if may be a good idea to add in some sort of handwritting program in addition to that if you feel your son is ready for more instruction on how to form his letters. OH, and I almost forgot, the other biggy is PHONICS!!! Do you have some sort of book or program to teach your son how to read? Again, if you think he is ready for basic phonics instruction you will need to get that. Carrie has a couple of suggestions for that.

How exciting that you will be starting this summer. My dd is also turning 5 in August and we will likely be starting in the fall (if I can hold out that long!! ) We will also likely school year round. You will definetely have to keep me posted on how things are going for you!

However, I realized that the economy pack comes with your choice of Bible and your choice of handwriting material, so both of those things are covered in that particular package. I will also get the basic package to get the science, history and devotional material. Again, I think this is correct, if not, please correct me and let me know what I am doing wrong.

If you look at the packages you will see that there is a blue box for the economy package. The economy package includes everything inside of that box. Then below that box you will see the basic package in a blue box. The basic package includes everything inside that box. Then to the right of both of those boxes is a yellow box. First it has the bibles listed. It says that you will need to pick one or use your own. Then you will see the handwriting programs listed below that. It says you will need to pick one, or use your own. Then, below that it has the phonics programs listed. It says you will need to pick one or use your own. Does that help clear it up for you? I do think it is a little confusing on the website. When I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted to use HOD I went ahead and ordered their free catalog. Once I had the catalog in my hands it made so much more sense to me. I could see everything laid out much better with that! Honestly, I just couldn't picture how everything fit together just looking at the website. Being able to see everything in the catalog is what solidified my decision to proceed and use HOD for this year.

I got it now! Thank you! I had misread the information in the blue box for the economy package. I was thinking it was saying it also included the necessary items to your right, but that you needed to choose which one you wanted. Now, I have re-read it and understand. Goodness, I really am a smart person, but I know it doesn't seem that way right now!

If that is the case and I can order the Bible and the Handwriting products separately, then I may just order those two items from Amazon. They are a little less on there and any money I can save is wonderful.

Also, I have requested the free catalog, so I should get that soon. I requested it a couple of days ago and I am excited to get it and look through it. It is nice to know that I am not alone in my confusion though. Thanks so much for your help!
