Schedules and Year Round Schooling?

Hello Again! I am just full of questions, aren't I? :) Well, at least I am learning, right?

I was wondering if anyone would share their homeschooling days with me. I would love to see how your day flows. In GA, I don't report anything until my son turns six, which won't be until August of 2010. So, kindergarten will be a little easier for me. Once he goes into first grade, GA. requires 4.5 hours of schooling and 180 days a year. So, I will have to adjust my day accordingly.

SInce I have the in home childcare, I will work schooling around them. I will have two-one year olds, an infant, a three year old and my son, who will be five in fall. It will be busy, but doable. My group of kids are really good and I keep them on a great daily schedule.

Also, I would really like to do year round schooling instead of the typical school year that is done here. I don't want to do it where I have 2 1/2 months off from school in the summer. I was wondering if anyone here does year round schooling and how does it work out for you?

Thanks, everyone and have a wonderful Friday!!!

Catrina :D

I'm just getting ready to start K in the fall with LHFHG. So far we've been using LHTH and so we don't have much of a "schedule" yet, but I knew I'd seen some threads that might help you so I went looking:

We are planning on schooling year round, especially while DS is young. He does so much better with some sort of structure to the day and so do I. We are only doing LHTH right now but I am a planner so I have already figured this out in my head. I'm thinking that we will probably do all the programs at 3 days a week. We will start a homeschool co-op in the fall that meets one day a week and then I like having one day to run errands, grocery shop, etc. Right now I don't know exactly how many weeks we will take off during the year, but I know we'll probably take 1 week off for VBS at church, 1-2 weeks for vacation, 2-3 weeks off for Christmas and then we may take more whenever things come up. We'll just go through the programs taking breaks as needed and just progressing to the next program as we finish one. The 3 days a week will also stretch the programs out long enough that we don't end up getting to them at too young of an age. Anyway, this may all change as DS gets older and we actually have stuff going on, but that's my plan for now :D

We school year round and just pretty much always plan on doing school and take breaks as we need to. So we're taking a one month break right now so I can get a garden planted. We've already finished LHFHG though, and we started last May. We pretty much always do school though because my dd needs the routine.

One thing I wanted to point out is that so much of your day can count towards the required 4.5 hours. It doesn't all have to be bookwork time. Things like brushing teeth (health), playing outside (PE), cooking with you (home ec, math, science), helping with the home (life skills, home ec), reading books before bed (literature, reading), any gymnastics, soccer, etc. can all count toward the required time. That might help you feel better about fitting it all in.
