New Inro and A Question
New Inro and A Question
Hi all! I justed started Beyond Little Hearts with my 1st grade son last week. We were using something that was just too time consuming and so I tried peicing things together but I was not feeling "on track". My sister in law is using Little Hearts for my K nephew and they are enjoying it so much I thought I'd give it a try. We will be using LHFHG next year as we will have twins in K come fall, not sure what I'll do for my 2nd grade son then.
Anyway, things are going great so far. The question I have is about Morning Bells devotional, ds is not interested in it. I think mostly because of the language, it seems to be written in KJV style. Does anyone use something else that matches BLHFHG's lesson plans?
I look forward to learning more and getting to know everyone better!

Summer,
Welcome to the board! I'm so glad you're getting a chance to use and enjoy "Beyond...". As to the Morning Bells devotional, I agree that it does take some getting used to, but I would reccomend giving it some more time to allow your child to grow into it. The style of the devotions take time to fully appreciate. For now, it may just go over your little one's head, but the lyrical language is so purposeful in the way it speaks to their little hearts, turning them toward the Lord. In the beginning of "Beyond..." my little guy didn't really understand them either. But, now, in "Bigger..." he really "gets" what the devotional is saying. He's learning to dig more deeply into the meaning behind the Bible verses.
If you really feel like you want to add in a different devotional, you may want to look at any of the other ones on our site: My ABC Bible verses (from Little Hands to Heaven) or Devotions for the Children's Hour (from Little Hearts for His Glory) are two.
Finding good devotionals is tough! We have looked at so many. Most devotionals are too worldly in their content or tone. So, it's not an easy search!
Blessings,
Carrie

My dd wasn't getting the devotional either. The language was way over her head for my language challanged child. So one day we went to a huge christian book store and looked at all the devotionals there. Together we picked one out that is perfect for her age and reading lvl. it also has a pink cover a bonus to my dd. We skip the devotional in bigger and do ours right before bed.

Hi! I just wanted to say that when we used Beyond... last year it took about 4 times for my son to get into the devotional. I'm so glad I kept with it because now that we're doing Bigger Hearts... this year, it has the follow-up devotional to the one in Beyond... and he really likes it. We've had some of the best discussions with those little books - it makes me delve into my faith more and really share it with my ds. The wording is different at first, but after a while, her tone of excitement and adoration for our Lord is just so catchy!
Now you have to promise never to tell my son I shared this with you, but he "sings" all of the hymn quotations at the end of each devotional now in his own made-up tune. He is NOT a good singer (again, please don't share with him). He just loves those hymn quotations and likes to "sing" them in his own way. I had to try very hard not to laugh at first, it honestly sounded... well, not good, to try to put it nicely... but then I realized he was really concentrating on the words and it touched my heart. He would be so embarrassed to do this in front of anyone but me, but it's kind of neat and even though it's horribly off-tune, I look forward to it every time.
I can see what you're saying, but maybe if you gave it another bit of time he may come around and love it like my son did! And if he doesn't, Devotions for the Children's Hour was wonderful too, and you'd need it next year for your twins anyway.

Thank you!
Thanks to everyone for your encouragement, wisdom, warm welcomes and laughs (my3sons)!
Carrie, it has been a struggle for us as a family to find a devotional that we can agree with so I can imagine what a job it is to try to find one that fits your curriculum so well with content that you agree with. I appreciate this curriculum so much. I have struggled the past 2 years trying to find a truly "Christ centered" curriculum that I didn't have to piece together myself.
Back to the devotional, after reading your replies I was reminded that it's all about planting seeds. As a farmer does not see his crop with his first watering, I will not either. Little by little, precept upon precept bountiful fruit will appear!

Summer,
I'm so glad that you're enjoying "Beyond...". We had such fun with it last year with my second son.
I appreciated this line in your post so much:

That is such an excellent reminder for me today too!
Blessings,
Carrie
