RME or ABEKA for Phonics

Hi, this is my first post and I wanted to introduce myself and ask a couple ?'s. I have twin boy's that will be 5 in May and my daughter will be 6 in March . We will be doing K and 1st starting in August. We used ABEKA K4 for our phonics instruction this year. Her and one of my twin boy's are reading ABEKA's beginning readers and my other twin is able to read CVC words and a few sight words but not as easy as they are. I was considering RME going further for all of them even though I know some of the beginning can be skipped over. I was just wondering if RME covers the rules that they will need to know etc... Not sure if I should just move on to ABEKA's K5. The RME sample lessons looked so good and very easy to teach.

Any thoughts?

I never used Abeka, so I can't speak to that. However, I did use RME with my dd learning to read and it was great. I started her at lesson 9 because we had already learned the letter sounds, and she just needed to review the short words before getting into reading larger words and learning blends, etc. I thought it was easy to use, built her confidence because she started reading words fairly quickly, and I really loved the way sounds are taught in the manual. Others here have used other programs that they've loved, so you'll probably get some suggestions there too, but for us RME was a great fit. I am using it with ds 5 and he likes it too so far..we haven't gotten very far yet, so I can't tell if it 'fits' him yet, but I think it will.

We really love RME! The lessons are easy to teach and there is a lot of creative reinforcement. One of my favorite aspects of RME is the copy and art work after every lesson, we doing that part in a story journal so we can see how far my dd has come. The copy and art work that is included is optional but I love that we will have a keepsake of my dd's reading journey. We are also able to how far she has developed her handwriting and drawing skills. We are a little past the halfway point and she is able to read "Biscuit" and a couple of DR. Seuss books. Just yesterday when she was about halfway through a Dr. Seuss book I told her that she could stop but she said that reading was fun and she wanted to keep going. RME works very well for our family and I would recommend to anyone.

Yes! I forgot...the copywork did wonders for my daughter's handwriting...within a month we could see much improvement!
