LHFHG Bible and Storytime question

Post by Mom2Monkeys » Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:02 pm

I have 101 Bible Stories which is the choice in LHFHG for 6-7 yr olds. My son will be 5 still in Aug. (6 in Dec) when we start K with LHFHG. Should I spend the $$ on the Family Time Bible? Money is tight so if there's not a big difference, I'd like to just use what I have. Do you think it's okay to use the older kids' book with a younger one?

As for Storytime, which 8 books exactly are part of the set. I'm tight on money, so I'm trying to get it used and can only find a 6 book set ???

Can you get the reading books from the library? Could you buy a book here and there. I bought everything I needed thru the summer when we had the extra $$. I have everything I need for my little K4 and K5 even though I will not be starting Little Hearts until next August. My oldest is not using HOD guides but likes the books that are in the book list so I get them from the library to read. I also been lucky to get afew things for her used. It's my first time buying used (in my 3rd year of HSing) and I have not been disppointed with my new to me purchaces,
As for the bible you could also just use your bible with or without the story bible that you already have. In my home, we read from my 4 and 5 year olds story bibles and then my 9 year old reads the story from her bible while I follow along and help her if needed (we both have New King James Version Bibles)
Military wife and Mama to 3 (DD12, DS8, & DD7)
Have used: Little Hands For Heaven, Little Hearts For His Glory, Beyond Little Hearts For His Glory,
Bigger Hearts For His Glory, and Preparing Hearts For His Glory.

You do not need to buy the family time bible, Carrie gives the bible verses the story is located on. The family time bible is well beloved, by my daughters, but not necessary. You can easily read the story right from the bible or your 101 book and read it and then retell it in more simple language. I would not worry about it.

As for story time books you can use the 6 books in the boxed set and then just pick your favorite stories from child hood to fill in the one you don't have. the story time is not locked into the lesson as a requirement, tho it often fits in very nicely. when i was rushing to finish before a support trip we skipped one whole book and never missed it (shhhh don't tell too many people)

My 5 year old did fine with 101 Bible Stories. She really enjoyed the pictures and I liked having the questions at the end of the story.

We have also been using 101 Bible stories and found that it has worked wonderfully. We do also read the verses as well sometimes. I think there are a couple of places where the verses are where you need to go to get the stories and it has worked out fine for us even though I have a 4 year old doing it as well as a 6 year old. You'll be fine on that I think. :D

The books that are in the Story time are:
The Adventures of Reddy Fox
The Adventures of Peter Cotton Tail
The Adventures of Danny Medow Mouse
The Adventures of Grandfather Frog
The Adventures of Chatterer The Red Squirrel
The Adventures of Buster Bear

HTH! We love LHFHG! :D

Good to know I can use what I have! Thanks!

I really thought there were 8 books in the Burgess books when I looked on the order page??? So, is it just the 6 book set or is it that plus 2 add'l?

You also need Danny Meadow Mouse (which replaces Uncle Wiggly that has gone out of print) and Peter Rabbit and Eleven Other Favorite Tales by Beatrix Potter. :D

The 8 books in the storytime set actually are necessary to do the storytime part of the plans in Little Hearts for His Glory. The books are scheduled daily by page number, and the Storytime part of the plans cannot be completed without them. Once you get to Beyond and Bigger, you can use your own book choices with the storytime part of the plans if you prefer (as the books are not scheduled by page number for the storytime box in those guides). :D

You definitely have your choice of Bible for LHFHG, as we give 2 Bible choices (scheduled by page number) and the Scripture reference.

Blessings,
Carrie

I would definitely use the books that are scheduled in the guide for storytime. That is BY FAR my son's favorite part of school with LHFHG!!!

Okay, so here's the list from one of the above posts:

The books that are in the Story time are:
The Adventures of Reddy Fox
The Adventures of Peter Cotton Tail
The Adventures of Danny Medow Mouse
The Adventures of Grandfather Frog
The Adventures of Chatterer The Red Squirrel
The Adventures of Buster Bear

And Carrie, you said I'd also need Danny Meadow Mouse and Peter Rabbit and Eleven Other Favorite Tales....Danny Meadow Mouse was already mentioned, so can you tell me the one other book I'll need?! :D

You don't want to miss out on the Burgess books. It was my son's favorite part of LHFHG. He has since re-read all of them on his own. Even my 3rd grader enjoyed them as read-alouds.

I 've always planned to use the Burgess books for sure. I didn't know if I needed to use the other Bible in LHFHG even though I already had the one for older kids (i'll just be using the one I have- 101 stories...). I'm just needing to know WHICH Burgess books I need exactly. :D
