What is saran wrap????

Post by trustinghim » Mon Feb 16, 2009 10:29 pm

Hi everyone :D

Sorry to sound a bit clueless, but I have to ask what is saran wrap? (unit 9 LHFHG) I was thinking it might be what we would call cling wrap, that you might wrap sandwiches in??????? Can someone let me know?????

Thanks

Actually saran wrap is Polyvinylidene chloride, its a very specific plastic
Where other plastic wraps are made up of polyethylene or poly vinyl chloride.

FYI Polyvinylidene chloride is often used in fabric softeners and Doll hair.

but pretty much any plastic cling wrap will do. Saran is just stickier and has been trademarked kinda like not all tissues are Kleenex's, but the generic will do in a pinch.

 Wow, Tansy! Do I want to know how you know this?

I guess that explains why Saran Wrap is better than the generic stuff?

I am constantly amazed by what you 'science' types know! Very impressive...Saran Wrap is definitely the best brand, it sticks the best.

it was that expensive packaging design/engineering degree I got tucked away in my brain.. its nice to trot out some of the answers I got stuck in there. Yes not all plastic wraps are the same, but they do all sorts of neat stuff, isn't it cool.
