Further proof that HOD promotes retention...

Hi everyone!

I've really missed this board, as we've had extremely limited access this past while.. to make a loooong story short, we went back to Canada to renew my husband's work visa (as we do each year), and our 10-day trip turned into a 3-month trip when the US border wouldn't let us back in (no specific reason given). Needless to say, we are thrilled to finally be home here and excited to be starting back with school tomorrow.

I was a little nervous about starting up again after such a long, unexpected break. So just a little while ago, I casually started talking about some of the last topics we had been learning about, and to my great surprise, all three kiddos began to enthusiastically talk about things that we had read in history, science, and Bible.. and in great detail, too! It was almost as though we can just finished those subject last week instead of in early November.

In my mind, this is just a another example of the way kids retain so well with HOD's thorough, gentle, multisensory methods :D

Thanks, Carrie!

Wow, that is so awesome! I find that my kids retain very well from what we read while using HOD...I think it's the great books combined with the CM-style readings.

Glad to hear your family is finally back home and able to start back up. :D

That's great - and we're glad to have you back! That must have been tough waiting - not a strong suit of mine. I find the dc are retaining a lot as well - and even from year to year too! InHisTiming hit the nail on the head - great lit. combined with CM style learning = memorable. :D

In Christ,
Julie :)

Leslie,

I'm glad you're finally home. I can't imagine how dificult it must have been to wait, and wait, and wait. Patience is definitely not my strongest quality.

It sounds like your kiddos are ready to start back up with school, once you get settled. It's good to know they've hung on to the things they were studying before the break. As moms, we often wonder how much those little minds are taking in. Thankfully, it's usually more than we guessed! Thanks for sharing! 8)

Blessings,
Carrie
