Beyond Little Hearts
Beyond Little Hearts
Hello, this is my first time to post, use Heart of Dakota, Home school my children, etc. Our original plans were to start home schooling next school year, but that changed quickly and with lots of prayer and talking and praying and more praying we chose to pull our 5 year old and 10 year old girls out of school at the beginning of second semester this year and start homeschooling.
A very good friend of mine introduced me to Heart of Dakota and with research and prayer we decided we could put both of the girls in the Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory and just adjust the Math, Reading, Handwriting, etc. to their ages and ability. But do the Science, History, Bible, etc. together. Our 10 year old needed to go back a little from where she was and get caught up in some things that were missed in school, both girls are doing very well.
My question is: Should I do Beyound Little Hearts again with my 5 year old, who will be 6 in May, next year and then do Preparing Hearts for His Glory with my 10 year old, who will be 11 in September, next year? I'm trying to prepare what I need for next year so I will have everything figured out by the time the Home School Fair comes to Texas in May.

Re: Beyond Little Hearts
I'll be waiting for replies. I have just started Beyond with my 9, 7, and 5 year olds. I'm just adding in a page a day of a basic science workbook, and abeka 3rd grade history for my 9 yr old. My tentative plan is to trudge along and go from Beyond to Bigger and use the extension pack at that time, then preparing...after this point, i might take my youngest and go back through one of the books, I'll have to see how things go. At this point, I couldn't see me doing more than one program, I can't even get my laundry off the couch or the dishes all done in a day
. But when my 9 year old is older and alot more independent, then it could be in my future.
I'll be watching the boards to see the replies.

Welcome! I don't really know the answer, but what if you did LHFHG (I know it's not usually recommended to go backwards, but this is a little different of a situation) or even Bigger, instead of putting her straight into Preparing with big sis? If you did Bigger, then she could do it at half speed (left side of the plans one day, right side the next). That would stretch over 2 years, and she would be more on target age-wise to do Preparing when the time came. I don't know if I personally would repeat Beyond if she's already done all of the history/science/read aloud portion. I would probably lean toward doing LHFHG as written, but if you think that'd be too much of a step back, then Bigger at half speed might be a good option. Have you happend to check out the placement chart? I don't know how much it would help you in your situation, but it might at least give you something to think about.

kimrose03,
Welcome to the boards! The ladies are wonderful about helping talk through options, so I know you'll find the best fit.
If you haven't already had a chance to check out the placement chart, I'd take a look there first. Here's a link to the chart:

Right now, I'm leaning toward having your 5 year old do LHFGH and your older child do Bigger with extensions or Preparing Hearts. So, I'd love to hear where your kiddos place on the placement chart, and also whether you'll be using HOD's recommendations for math, reading, writing and grammar or your own options. That information will really help us all advise you much better.
Blessings,
Carrie
