Trying to figure out if DITHOR is right for us - advice?

Post by Croisdaidh » Mon Feb 09, 2009 5:30 pm

My son is technically in 6th grade, but reads at a higher level. Is DITHOR suitable for this age group, and does it work well with more challenging reading (for example, ds is reading Lord of the Rings). Does it incorporate both discussion and writing about literature? I'm concerned it might be "too easy" for him at this age/level.

I haven't seen the program yet, and only just today peeked at the sample pages. Insight from users would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to the board! We're glad to have you here. :D Drawn into the Heart of Reading works with any books you choose, so you can easily use books like Lord of the Rings. The focus in Drawn into the Heart of Reading is on recognizing various literary elements, reading with discernment, discussing analytically, and enjoying what is read. Level 6/7/8 sounds like it would be a good fit for your son. :D

DITHR is not a writing program, so you will need to add an additional something for writing. We carry Igniting Your Writing Vol. II, which would be a fit for his age. You can use any other program you may prefer instead. You will also need to add your own grammar program. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
