We are on week 19 of Beyond. Morning Bells Devotional has been hard for me to read to my son because it is not the "fluffy" type reading we have from the other children devotionals we own. Today as we cuddled on the sofa to read it, my son sprung up and said, "Mommy, I love this little book! It is so tiny but so powerful!"
The same thing happened when last year while we were reading through the Burgess books. The only reason I continued to read was because Carrie said there was a goal. She was right!
Poetry? OK, English is not my first language and I have always struggled with the purpose of poetry. But we are now having such a good time with it, my son loves reading them, taking turns, drawing pictures for them and he feels so proud to be able to read the big words. And Bible study. Every text that is in the lesson plan my son wants to look up and read the whole chapter that goes with it. I love it. Even copywork has been a difficult daily battle and today it was magic. I did make a few changes in the way we have been doing copywork allowing him to be more independent and responsible today, and I even got a kiss!
Now I can enjoy the next 18 weeks of Beyond and be encouraged for when we start Bigger!
I am cherishing this one day forever!

That is so awesome, Dorla!
I wish everyone just beginning Beyond would read your post and keep it in the back of their mind as they are starting it. You reminded me of when I was doing Beyond the first time with my oldest ds. I remember thinking that I loved the CM philosophy in writing, but when we were doing it, the jury was still out for me. I was waiting, treading water, trying to see if it would really work because it seemed to be almost too good to be true. I came to the same realizations you did - and now that I'm doing Beyond again, I just have such a sense of peace that these skills will come, and when they do - Hallelujah!!!
Praise God!!!
Because they are necessary skills - not just for Beyond - but "beyond Beyond" (couldn't resist
) and into real life. Give your little honey a hug for me - he's hit some pretty important milestones - and all because he had a mom who persevered!

Julie

Dorla,
I'm celebrating with you today too!
PTL for His faithfulness!
I agree that so much of education requires perseverance to see the fruit of our labors. I often remind moms to persevere in order to really see the purpose behind each part of the guide. Often the success formula is in the systematic bite-sized progress we're making toward the goal.
Posts like these are such an encouragement for those who will (and are) coming after you. The Lord has blessed each of you with the gift of encouragement through this board and that is a powerful gift you're giving to others!!
It's so important to share our joys and successes on our homeschool journey! Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Carrie
