Hearts for Him Through Time

I'm new here and have been considering Preparing for my 10 year old grandson who will be in the 5th grade come this fall. I'll be switching after he finishes up the 4th grade with what we have for now. Julie has been a HUGE blessing to me and her advice was to keep posting and reading. I just saw Carrie's post and I'm wondering if what she's working on is the new Hearts for Him Through Time. I'm thinking that may be the program I need for my grandson. His birthday is in Dec., so he will turn 11 in Dec. of 2009 during his 5th grade year. I'm praying for the resources to just purchase everything I want at one time. Still, I must be thankful for what God decides to let me have. Maybe it will be more economical for me to purchase the HFHTT teacher's guide and books that go with that than having to purchase the extra books to extend Preparing into the 5th and 6th grades. The Preparing teacher's guide wouldn't stretch that far anyway. Sorry ladies, I just realized I'm thinking out loud. Maybe I need to ask Carrie directly about this? I've only been on this board a few days and I'm really feeling my way around----especially since I'm not actually using HOD at this time.

Still, I'm enjoying this board. Everyone is just helping everyone else and that is a wonderful thing Also, you younger women please bear with me. I'm just figuring out how to do the abbreviations, etc. We did not even HAVE computers when I was in high school. In fact, I think I got my first computer when I was about 46 years old. I'll just go ahead and tell you I'm 56 going on 57. I'm old enough I don't care if anyone knows how old I am. My dad is still living and he's 89, so I'm very young compared to him. It's a good thing I took typing in high school---lol.

It's nice to "meet" you here. And, I have to tell you that you're cracking me up!

I'm pretty new to HOD still, just using LHTH last year and adding Bigger this year with my crew. I'm not sure if you're asking if you can get a guide that lasts 2 years. Is that what you're wondering? Typically, the HOD guides are written to last one school year. They are for an age range rather than a "grade" because, as we all know, kids are ready for different skills at different ages. I think that the majority of stretching that moms do with HOD is in the beginning, when a child is ready to start "kindergarten" work...but not ready for too much. So with LHFHG and BeyondLHFHG, they may take 3 years to go through them to "ease" the child into school and allow them to grow into the work. So, my guess is that whichever guide you choose, you'll want to finish it in a school year because taking two would be too long for a child at the upper-elementary age. (Like I said, I'm not an expert...but that's what I'm assuming from what I've learned. I hope it's helpful. )

Based on the timetable that Carrie was working off of last year (which I think she's following pretty closely again), the packages for the new guide Hearts for Him THrough Time: Creation to Christ should be up on the website this spring. Maybe April? When they're up, it should give you a better idea of whether that would be more economical for you, and whether it would be a good fit for your gradson, too! Maybe Carrie could give you an idea before then? I'm not sure if she'd have that all figured now or not. I know that they're planning to have the new guides shipped by the 1st of August if you decide to go that route.

Thanks for your testimony of being a blessing to the next generation and investing in your grandkids! What a special gift that is for you and them, I'm sure! (I'd love that opportunity in the future, Lord willing. Life truly is fleeting, and you've got that eternal perspective that I'd like to keep! )

I'm just a visitor here, also, not having used a HOD product yet. I almost started my 12yos in Preparing Hearts this year, but decided to hold off and see what the new program had to offer. I noticed your post when I just arrived here to see if there was any new info on it.

Don't feel bad about your age & computers! I'm turning 40 in March, and I learned to type on a manual typewriter. I was so excited to use an electric in high school! I struggle with all the abbreviations, especially as more and more new homeschool products come out. The ironic thing is that my mom, in her 70s, knows more about computers than I do. For instance, yesterday my taskbar was suddenly on the side of my screen instead of the bottom. . . I had to call her and have her talk me through it!

Just wanted to say hello, and I look forward to hearing the answers to your questions about the new program!

Your post made me smile because I always feel a little funny because I'm so young! I'm 28 and have started homeschooling my oldest for kindergarten. In fact, we're almost done with LHFHG already!

I think it's fabulous that you're helping homeschool your grandson. What a lucky boy he is.

I thought I had replied and then it got lost in the "nether" world. I just wanted to thank everyone. I'm babysitting 3 of my 7 grandchildren tonight and one of them is a 2 year old so I must hurry and get off of here. If the other reply I typed shows up, then there will just be two. I think I got a chance to welcome you on another thread, but if not I'll mention it here! We're glad to have you on the board. The ladies are truly wonderful about helping and uplifting one another!

Kathleen is right that the new ancients guide will ship Aug. 1st. Pre-orders for all of the rest of the resources for the new guide will begin around March (or even earlier). Our web designer is working on getting the packages up for Hearts for Him Through Time right now. It is quite a job, so he's moving slowly through it. We had a target date of the end of January for the new guide to be up on the website, but he may miss it by a little bit.

I'm very excited for you ladies to see the new packages and resources. We are thrilled at how they have fallen into place. This will truly be a God-honoring guide to its very core.

We will be updating the placement chart too, as we get closer to the first week in March so that will help with placement.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, Carrie. I can hardly wait for the "new additions" (kind of like waiting for a new baby---lol), but I know it will be worth the wait. Take your time because the old adage, "haste makes waste" is very true.

One of the things that has impressed me most with HOD is that these homeschooling mom's have come back year after year using HOD. Like I said in an earlier post, I've used many, many curriculums over the years because I kept switching, looking for a better fit. When you have return customer's, you know you're getting it right.
