Preparing and for Beyond?
Also, are there some books that are needed for a short enough length of time that you would consider it "okay" to borrow from the library rather than purchase?

We have borrowed some books from the library...we can renew and get to keep the books for a total of 6 weeks...and that's worked okay for us. However, we have had some difficulty finding some of the books used with Beyond...at the library. I can't give you a list of books for the 1st twelve weeks, as I've loaned mine out...but I'm sure someone else will come along with that info. for you. If you need to economize, I would say use the library for those you can find there, and purchase the ones you know they don't carry...you'll have to research this prior to placing your order. If it's not necessary to save money, then I would suggest buying the books you need so you have them right at hand. I think this would be the most convenient option, and I plan to do it if possible in the future.

Okay, I'll try to help with this. This is for Beyond, I can't help with Preparing.
American Pioneers and Patriots
God's Wonderful Works
Morning Bells (I can say personally I did without this for awhile)
Stories of the Pilgrims
Boys and Girls of Colonial Days
Math book
If you are using the books for Emerging readers you need Either: The Early Reader's Bible or The Beginner's Bible for the first 9 units and then Owl at Home, Frog and Toad All Year, and Frog and Toad are Friends. Those you could definately borrow from the library and there are alternatives to the Early Reader's Bible or The Beginner's Bible but I won't list them now since I don't know if you will be using this section or not. Other than that I don't really see anything else in the first 12 weeks.

StillJulie,
You'll also need a Biography to read-aloud for the first 4 weeks, and then an adventure for the next 4 weeks. Suggestions for those genres can be found at this link (in the Boy / Girl / and Classic Packs):

Thank you. I'm getting there... slowly but surely... I took a dent out of my budget to buy four copies of the earlybird mathematics, though. So I'll need to build up my homeschool funds again before I place another order.
