Burgess Characters

My son needs a great deal of visuals, and sometimes the Burgess books don't provide enough pics for him.
So, I made a *character board* for my 2 kids (6 & 5) that are using LHFHG. I found (by searching on Google Images) pictures of each Burgess character. I printed them off and placed them each on a poster board and wrote the name underneath. So, now when we read, they can refer to a picture to see they type of animal we are talking about.
I just thought I'd share something that worked for us.

What a NEAT idea!!!! I am off to find the characters myself. You know if you buy some felt board and put velcro on the back of the characters...they could "act" out the story while you read to them....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
So much to do, so little time.

Such a great idea! We only have one Burgess book left to go this time 'round with LHFHG but I'll keep that in mind for the next time.

I can see that really helping out my boy, although he has listened to some of the books with us and done fabulously. I can see them also being fun for activities after you are through with the chapter for the day.

I have found almost all the characters in Reddy Fox online or found pictures of the creatures that would appear similar to what they looked like. Then I printed them out and cut them out. Emma has already been using them to act out the chapters we have read.

What a GREAT idea!! Plus most of these characters show up in the other Burgess books, so I won't have to reprint to many. I am going to laminate them and then they'll last longer. I am still going to print the rest of the characters.
Thanks again Shannon!!!!!

Has anyone compiled a list of links for these?
I'd like to make these characters for my kids and wasn't going to search for them all if it's already been done.
Even a list of what characters I'd need to make would be helpful...
I thought of this when I just read of someone talking about Reddy Fox not holding their child's interest. I have the same problem and remember reading this thread last year, so just searched for it...

Add me to the list, too! I googled last night, and couldn't find much at all.

Same here. . . I didn't have much luck finding anything, but would love a site if it's okay to post it here.
I will keep looking, though.

This summer we happened to find "Peter Cottontail Sticker Picture" book by Dover for $3.95. It has all the Thornton Burgess characters with their names, so we refer to it regularly while reading. You can stick the stickers onto the lake/wood setting, or you could also use it to make a poster or booklet. Just another option
I just checked and you can get the same one from the Barnes and Noble website. On the dover website they have a smaller version. The one we have has 38 stickers, and it says it is by Thornton Burgess and Pat Stewart.
Just checked and amazon has it, too, for $3.95.

Sorry, I don't have a master list. I just spent one afternoon finding them all through google images and if I couldn't find them I typed in what they were (aka farm boy, hawk, etc) and then I colored them with colored pencils. The Dover book sounds great and had I known about that I'd have probably done that at the time.
