Am I correct in assuming that the parent is to read the books along side or prior to the child reading the story for DITHOR? Sorry for the dumb question!

Welcome to HOD!! :D I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

You can rest easy knowing there is no need to pre-read a book if you choose a book that Carrie has listed...they are quality books with nothing to screen. You also don't have to preread b/c everything you need to ask or teach is all in the DITHOR guide book you'll use. Many times though, with the lower levels, your dc will read aloud to you...which is a skill to be learned even for strong readers. Then you'll discuss it using the guide and your dc may or may not have a sheet from their workbook to go with the lesson. I've never had to go back to read anything for myself to teach the lessons with my dd7. I might read along when she isn't reading aloud just b/c I am anxious to know what happens next in the story! LOL

you aren't required to read ahead or with your child. A lot of the books I've already read; so I am passingly familiar with them anyway. But like M2M said, if you use any that Carrie suggests, you will be very safe! :-)
