Hello friends,
I am on unit 17 of Little Hands and I am a little confused. My Bible history is weak and this has actually been a blessing to me to dig into the scriptures and also get answers from my husband about where I'm confused, but I still need some help from those who have done this guide book before.

On the fingerplay I'm trying to figure out who all the kings are that are represented:

This little king Makes God's house new (Joash)
This next king Gets some bad news (Hezekiah)
This good king is reading God's book (Josiah)
This bad King is N-N- Naughty next (??)
This nice king Let's the Israelites go (??)
Walking Walking Walking all the way home.

(very fun by the way)

This unit (The Time of the Kings) is following Kenneth Taylor's The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes. The first 3 kings in the fingerplaly are represented in the guide, one per day, then the last two days of the unit are on Ezra and Job. I cannot figure out who the other kings in the fingerplay are. This fingerplay also spans wide gaps in Israel's history, especially the division, the then the captivities of both Judah and Israel. Not that my ds5 needs to understand all that, but I saw my own lack of knowledge in this area chronologically and stumbled in my teaching.

Thanks for any help on who the kings were.

I think the N-N-Naughty Next is referring to King Nebuchenezzar (which I can't spell)
The nice king who let the Israelites start going home was King Cyrus.

Thank you Netpea, I think you must be right. It has been so great this and last week to really dig into Bible history during my own reading time. Because I didn't want to just take the childrens Bible story at face value and have been looking up the actual scripture all along to read to ds during school time, I really stumbled on unit 17 because I didn't understand all that went on during those years. I've had a revived interest in 1 and 2 Kings and Chronicles as well as the prophets. I've dug through commentaries and really put the pieces together. DH says I don't need to teach all that to my Kindergartner, but I feel better teaching if I have a better comprehension about what is going on. What a blessing to under gird my faith with these facts.

Also found the movie "Jeremiah" on youtube and that helped too. Good movie. It really brought the book to life and gave me an intense look at Jeremiah's sacrificial life and absolute love and obedience to the Lord. As well as an understanding of the fall of Judah. I recommend the movie (but don't know the rating). I think it's Italian made.

Amen to that. I have learned so much through our homeschooling journey so far. I didn't have any grasp on the Kings or exile before. I don't have it all down now either, but at least I have an idea of how it all flows. It's great to be learning along with the kids. I'll have to check out the Jeremiah movie, I haven't seen it.

That's one of the great things about this curriculum...it really gets you thinking! And even though you may not need to teach that to you K'er, it's still good to know, especially if you feel more comfortable teaching that way...and it increase your knowledge of the Lord. I know I have come so far in knowing Him...but still have so much to learn. It's a never-ending process of forming that relationship.
