Hi Y'all,
I have been so busy having fun with school that I haven't been diligent with the boards.
I'm amazed at lil sis ability to speak english and she is on lesson 20 of her reading program and so excited to do school!
The big sis on the other hand took sometime to warm up to it but lately we have been finishing a week in a week! PTL!!! Daddy took on the math to ease the tension between mama and big sis. And now school is actually fun!

I'm even finding I can do both of them at the same time, one does a quiet task while the other listens. Big sister is loving all the preschool things ROFL and little sister is making like a sponge and soaking it all up. In fact we drew the lewis and clark map today as a background for the notebook sheet and Lil sis had to do one too! (it is a bit scary tho the 6 year olds handwriting is much neater and she has no clue what she is writing!)

Tho lil sis needs more than the little hands for heaven is giving her. We some times do more than one day in a day cause its so easy for her. I'm in awe of how quickly she learns letters and sounds. I've added dot to dots. Those took her 3 days to figure out. But now she is a pro. And I been adding in the math from LHFHG, altho she likes to hear me read ready fox I spend more time explaining and drawing pictures than I do reading.

So any suggestions for read alouds that would help build language?

Hi Tansy! :D

I've missed seeing you here and was wondering how you and your girls were doing. I'm glad to hear that it's going well. It sounds like they're making lots of progress. Praise the Lord! :D

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "build language", but I can say: "DON'T STOP READING OUT LOUD !!!" Good literature that is.
So I just want to encourage you to read out loud as much as you can... if lil sis seems a little too young for chapter books, you might still include her as you read to big sis, but you might also add in some picture/story books that are high quality literature for her on her own time. You are just starting with the Dover Classic Burgess books [with big sis] and by the time you finish with Ready Fox and move to Peter Cottontail, they both will have "grown" into it.

Hope that helps.

Her two children are adopted so English is not their first language.

Tansy,

Good to "see you". I've been wondering how your family was settling in with your new little sweetie. :D

Blessings,
