OT: Prayer Request

We went to the doctor for my little one's 6 month well check (even though she's 7 months
). The doctor is concerned because she just isn't gaining much weight. When she was born she weighed in the 75 percentile, and she's since dropped so that she's in the 20 percentile now. She has gained around 6 pounds, and was 7 lbs 15 oz at birth. Anyway, the doctor is wanting us to really try to encourage her to nurse as often as possible (which isn't a problem) and to offer solids whenever she'll take them (which she's just not interested yet). If she hasn't gained weight in 1 month then she's going to start tests. Please pray that she'll either gain weight so that we don't have to do tests, or that if we have to, the doctors will be able to find out what's going on as quickly as possible.

I am praying for you. I had one very small baby. We adopted her at about 6 months by the time we got her home. One thing to look for is if they spit up a lot. Sometimes they lose what you give them that way. What I did that worked was to feed smaller quantities more often. I also used the bags in teh bottles to make sure I was not getting too much air in there along with the food which can give them gas pain. Those Mylecon drops work really well.
I will be praying for your baby!

Thanks for the prayers. It might be nothing, but her weight gain has just bottomed out. And my pediatrician was really concerned and she is NEVER concerned about things. She's so laid back. Anyway, I just don't want my baby to have to go through a bunch of tests. She's happy, and seems healthy, she is just little. Maybe she's just petite. I'll really watch her spitting up. She does spit up some and I try to keep her upright as much as I can, but since she's liking to move now, I often let her crawl after I feed her so I might need to put her in her saucer or something so she won't spit up. Again, thanks so much for the prayers and the concern!

I will pray for you and your little one. May I also offer some encouragement... between 6mos and 9 mos of age my ds only gained 1lb! His weight wasn't even on the scale
As I am sure you realize I and his doctor were very concerned. Because he was a little older than yours I was told to cut back on the nursing and feed him more solids, which was a huge struggle, he really loved nursing! Before he got to the point of not even being on the weight scale, he hovered around the 20th percentile, which is where he is now, so take heart this may only be a little blip. May God Bless you and your little one!

Oh that is so very encouraging! Thanks! I just have never had a tiny baby before so this is all new. We had the same thing as you-she gained less than a pound from 5 months to 7 months.
I'm going to just try to relax until we go back and see our wonderful doctor again. Thanks again for everyone's prayers!

Both my first two babies were normal weight at birth (6.15 and 7.4) but neither gained weight quickly. They stayed in the -10 percentile till they were over a year old. Yet they were both healthy (well Joshua did have failure to thrive at first, but that was my milk supply drying up I guess, LOTS of stressful stuff going on in my life at that point....even when he got onto formula and was gaining normally again, he stayed in the negative percentiles and was healthy....just little). They are both normal average sizes now....in the 45th percentile.
I'll be praying that everything is well with your wee little one.
Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain you: he shall never permit the righteous to be moved. ~Psalm 55:22

Ashley,
My kids are small so I know what you mean. My 2 year old is so small right now that sometimes I can let myself worry about it but the doc says he's fine. I will be praying for your baby and for peace for you and your husband.
Blessings!
