O.T. For those of you from colder states...,

This morning as we were going out the door to church my children ran back in and said it was freezing! It was in the high 60's and will be in the high 70's by the end of today. (though we do have a cold front coming) At church people had jackets, coats, hats and gloves on. This is winter in Florida

After moving from Florida to New York State just over a year ago, and making it through the winter, we all have a new perspective on what 'freezing' actually is! Try 9 degrees....it chills you to the bone! But it's so much fun to play in the snow...my kids love building snowmen, going sledding, and just rolling around in the snow making snow angels. Actually, even shoveling snow (back-breaking work) has even been fun on occasion. I remember my MIL trying to get me to put on a jacket when we lived in Florida when it was 60 out and the wind was blowing...

Even though we are enjoying our time here with the beauty of the real fall season, and we're looking forward to our winter with the snow, we all miss sunny Florida! How easy it is to go outside there in the winter....no taking 20 minutes just to get snow suit, boots, gloves, jacket, and scarf on. I miss just slipping on my sandals and grabbing a long-sleeved shirt to take with me, and heading out the door; I miss the beach, the sand, and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore; I miss our old friends (though we are making new ones here); I miss our long swimming/summer season and the wonderfully mild weather from November to April.

It's so funny how relative things are. When we went to Fl in March...it was fairly chilly there, but we were out on the beach anyway, dipping our toes in the water, and just enjoying the 'warmth'! We would not have been doing that then if we'd been living there. Now I understand how the 'Yankees' used to come down on vacation and go swimming in the ocean in February when it was 50 degrees...it 's just not that cold compared to single digits!

When we lived in Austin, Texas, we thought 60 was freezing. And then we moved to England. It was 60 here in the SUMMER. I have been a Texan all my life. I may very well die when it actually becomes winter in this country!

Fellow Texan here, born and raised and lived there until March when we moved to Mexico. Most people think of Mexico as hot, but where we live in more Southern Mexico it is very temperate; similar to the weather in Hawaii. I thought I got cold easily, but when it's in the 70's here and I take my youngest out in a short sleeve onesie and some light pants, all the little Mexican women tell me I need to bundle him up! Their babies look like little eskimoes they bundle them up so warm even if it is a little windy..fleece footie jammies, a little cap, and one or two blankets!!

HA! That is too funny. My husband is originally from IL but his family moved to Alabama when he was a teenager and he said the one time it actually snowed there it was like 1/2 an inch and people were buying out supplies from the grocery store and sliding on the roads. hehehe I find that highly entertaining as I grew up in Alaska...I mean they already have snow on the ground by now... LOL And bitter....ooooh boy!

It's all in how acclimated you are to the climate. Here in MN, it was upper 30's this morning and extremely high winds. I had to drag the two little ones back in to the house to put on Fall coats and I went to church with just a fleece. We talked in the car that it was time to start talking about buying winter coats for the year. Oh. It also snowed for the first time this season - today! It was pretty!!

Laurie you probably face winters like we have here in NH.

We generally wake up to sub-zero temps and if the highs reach the mid-30's it's warm. Last winter we had around 120 INCHES of snow for the season!!! That's total for the season....not in anyone storm. The snowbank along my driveway was as tall (possibly taller) than our shed. The snow in our yard was waist high on me which made it too deep for the kids to go out and play in it.

When it's in the 60's here, we break out the tee-shirts! I'm not joking!

Okay. This helps explain so much to me!! We have a fairly large Mexican population around here, and I never could understand when I would have my babies in windbreakers and the little hispanic babies would have on snowsuits and big fleece blankets. Now I know I'm not just a bad mom. I honestly was wondering if I needed to start dressing them more warmly....

My DH is from California/Arizona...so our Iowa weather was a big change for him so many years ago! We should have some flurries by the end of the week, according to the weather man. I turned the furnace on last week-reluctantly. I think this may be one of the few years we can actually trick or treat without a snowsuit on-seriously!
