Do any of you color code your books either by guide or by child? I have one in LHFHG and two in PHFHG (1 with extensions)and DITHOR. I know that SL organizes them by certain dot colors per core. I just want them to be easy to spot on the shelf. Any suggestions appreciated.

I do I color code them by guide and genre and also put the reading level on there if that applies. It helps keep it all straight especially if you are doing a few programs with several kids. I just used color tabs I did it by DITHR, BIgger, Bigger extension, LHFHG and emerging readers. Then I put the reading level on the sine as well. It kind of looks library style only color. Nothing too fancy but I do it on the spine so it can be seen on the shelf and cover it with clear tape. It works well. HTH

Okay, this is going to sound dumb, but can you give me some suggestions of what colors you use for each? I bought some stickers and was going to use red for LHFHG and Blue for Preparing. But then when we get to Beyond then those might be Blue as well. Can you tell I'm just a little OCD--LOL

How about green for Preparing? I know the book is actually light blue whereas Beyond is dark blue, but I'm not sure they sell stickers those colors. I would always be confusing my blues if I did different shades, but that's just me.

Great idea! I hadn't thought of this before but this sounds like a great way to keep everything straight as we go through the programs.

This sounds great and will be something I institute in our household as the books start piling up! My question though is this, how do you know what reading level a books is? Is there a source for that type of information? My step-daughter's 5th grade teacher had a classroom library which was color-coded by reading level, which I thought was great, but I'm not sure how to implement that in my own household. HELP!!

The sample book list that comes with DITHOR has the age /grades listed. I think HOD sells them seperately for $5.00 hth

I don't color code my books, just take what I need for the year and put them on a specific shelf or in my child's school bin. I do color code my children's school supplies.....have four currently being schooled that can get hairy, so now I know if the green scissors on the floor I know which child to call to put them away etc. Never thought about color coding the books though, that is an idea!
