I found the secret ingredient in HOD!

It's peace! I almost had forgotten we had been away from school for so long what the secret ingredient to HOD really is. But I had a great reminder because this year we changed our LA and Math so I decided to start with just those and anything else new we were doing this year for a week without HOD. The reason was I knew HOD worked for us so I did not want to confuse it with the new stuff. What a struggle the first week was, nothing but huge attitude problems that needed to be corrected. 
And our day took forever even though we were not doing the majority of our school. Anyway we pretty much fixed the attitudes and learned how to use the new stuff so this week we are back to BHFHG and LHFHG. 
We had stopped part way through last year and intended to take only a short break and come back to a 4 day HOD school week this year, but our break was bigger than intended. I was afraid we were going to have to review a lot but we did not have to do any, the retention was amazing for all my kids. And this week I am reminded in the light of last weeks frustration how it was to first come to HOD and instantly have peace in our day. What a difference HOD makes! We actually get more done in less time of other things just because we have the flow of the day and the glue of HOD to keep our day together. And once again I see my kids really learning things and applying them. It's amazing to me how you can add things you want to HOD and I am talking whole LA and Math changes throwing in some extra character training a foreign language, taking a five day week program and turn it into a four day week, I mean I feel like I practically stomped on it all and it still works like a dream. In the end we still have the same peace we had last year using it a completely different way. I love HOD! There is nothing else that could stand up to my rearranging and changing and still come out just the same working every time. And no matter what is going on in life, no matter what the issues with my kids, we can still get our day done and in it still find peace. We still love HOD! We still love last year's program and are still loving using it and it still works even though I changed it big time this year. There is nothing out there like HOD and nothing that could add peace to our day like HOD does!

I can't wait to get started with the rest of it next week. Doing the science was so peaceful compared to all of the other curriculum we have tried in the past. I also like that it allows me to have some one on one time with him and NOT be doing a workbook page 
I don't have a problem with workbook pages but it seems that was all we were doing together with our other curriculum. Now we are making memories while learning and it's exactly what I have always wanted our homeschool to be.
