PLEASE HELP WITH QUESTION ON EXPLODE THE CODE BOOKS

Post by savedbyloveandmercy » Sun Sep 07, 2008 11:44 am

Hi, ladies!

I have ordered the first three ETC books, and I'm wondering how long it takes to get through each book. I realize that it will certainly depend on the child, but does anyone have an approximate idea?
I see that they're geared to K-4, but does that mean that 4th grade is when they typically finish?? :?
I guess my concern is that I'm going to need the other books sooner than expected, and I don't want to have to make a last-minute purchase. I'd rather be prepared now, if I can!

Thankful once again for HOD, and this wonderful support group, :D

My son completed the first three ETC books last year. It took the whole school year to complete them. Now, keep in mind, they were just part of his program last year. We did other phonics work using other materials. In the beginning, he probably did one to two pages 4 days a week. By the end of the year, he was completing 3-5 pages per day 4 times per week. He liked them and really learned from them.

Thank you for your help, Laura. We will be using HOP with ETC, so that's a probably a pretty good indicator of our timeline, too!

Thanks so much!

that is about right :) We use other phonics stuff too but we do 2-4 pgs in ETC. It took us the year to get through 3 I think. I love the ETC books :)

Same with us - we did 2 pages a day. We stopped at Book 4 though - yikes - that one takes a leap! :D

Yes, ETC book 4 seems really out of order to me. I skipped it and got 3 1/2, 5, and 6 for my son this year to keep up with phonics as we do the emerging reader set with HOD. I don't know if I'll go back to 4 or not. It's a weird arrangement.

I though 2 books were equal to one year? But I guess that would depend o the age of your child and how easily they were finding it.
