I feel silly asking...

Hello,

I just wanted to double check about the reading levels listing for the book lists. So when it says level 3.3 mean 3rd grade, or not necessarily? I saw some books that had a level of 5 and some with 3 or 4 all in the same group, so I was curious. My son is a good reader, he is 8. I am trying to expand his vocabulary, and challenge him while not going over his head, and keep reading fun.

Thanks,

Marie

Marie,

You're right on the reading levels. If it says 3.3, that means 3rd month of 3rd grade. The book packs do have a range of levels in them, so I think you'd want your child to be able to read the highest level and be "good" at the average level. (I'm just thinking as I type here... ) But, that's what I did. My son is also 8, and I decided to go with the Level 2 pack, which is 3.0-4.1 reading level. When we started our 1st book, I thought, "Oh no, I got books that are going to be too easy for him! " We started with "The Littles" and it's one of the easiest books. THen when we read "The Storm", it seemed to be just perfect, and it's 3.5 on the reading level. I'm planning to do DITHOR daily for this year, so we'll get through all those books.

If you're wondering how to decide what books will be the right level for your child, I'd go to the "Book Shop" on the main website and try to get some of the books from the library to try out. I had my son read several of the emerging readers at the end of last year just to see where I thought he fell on the levels.

Let us know if you have more questions. :D You'll probably want to post your questions on the main board though because that's usually the only place moms look for new posts.

Marie,

Kathleen did a super job of answering your questions. I'll just pop-in to move your post over to the main board, so more moms can respond if desired. The main board is the place where all new posts begin. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
