Introduction of a newbie

Hello all! My name is Alissa and I'm new to the whole homeschool world. I've felt a gentle tug toward it for some time but my husband hasn't felt it yet. That's okay. I have three children. My boys are 3 and 4 and both are in preschool this coming year (at our church two days a week). I decided to try out the LHTH with them on the days they are home with me on Mondays and Fridays. (Wednesday mornings we'll be at a Woman's bible study) I am dipping my toe in with a no-lose situation. If we love it, we can take the next step. If nothing else comes of it at all, they have more bible in them! Good all the way around, I say.
I picked HOA's program because I have a very dear, longtime friend (Benelli) who researches everything extremely well before she does it with her own family. She loves this program and so do her kids. That is enough for me! Everytime I've bought what she's done the research on, I've been very happy so I'm sure this will be no different. She's an amazing woman and friend. I visited her school room last night and I was so inspired! I want to go to her school! I don't have a school room yet, but we'll build up to that I suppose.
Anyway, I also have a six year old daughter who starts first grade tomorrow. For the last week she's been feeling sad about going to school because she "won't be able to see very much of my family." Sounds reasonable to me - although I was a bit surprised because she knows and likes at least half of her classmates. I told her to try it for a few months and if she doesn't like it, she can discuss it with Mommy and Daddy and we'll see what we can do. I'll let you know what happens with that one!
So, I'm excited and nervous all at one time. I'm looking forward to getting to know you here on this board. Thanks for letting me spill my story while I sort through what I've committed to!

Hi, I'm glad you've found
HOD and
Little Hands...! I am using that program with my 5 year old and we love it.
I hope it goes really well for you and you'll be able to move on to the next level with your dear ones. And, I'll pray that your dd will cheer up and make the best of her school year....it is an adjustment to miss all that family time.
Maybe it will work out that you can homeschool her too...
LHFHG or
Beyond...would probably be a good fit. Please keep us posted on how things are going for you.

Alissa welcome to the world of homeschooling big toe and all.
I think you will really enjoy HOD. They have a wonderful program we are suing for first grade called Little Hearts for His Glory. If you decide to put your whole foot in later.
Just wanted to welcome you. Homeschooling is wonderful and I know you will love it. So glad you already have a great friend to help guide you. We are happy you are here!

Alissa,
Welcome! I LOVE using LHTH with my little ones! (They love it, too!
) I think you'll so enjoy your time with it, and you're exactly right that it will be beneficial no matter what your future schooling holds. If God has laid it on your heart, He very well may lead your husband, too. My 1st grader made the same comment that yours did when he was in 1st grade. (Mine went to a small Christian school for K and 1st before we brought him back home. K was only 3 days a week, but 1st was 5 days a week. He has instant friends no matter where he goes, and is so good about noticing kids who aren't included and getting them included. God has gifted him with his "social" personality. But, he really wanted to stay home and play with his little sister. I'm so glad that he loves being with us!) We are loving our homeschooling!
Kathleen

Just wanted to say HI!!!
And just a little encouragement...my husband didn't feel the call to homeschool right away either. He agreed to see how preschool went, but thought it was just a "whim" I had and that I wouldn't follow through (
). However he was so pleased at how well our dd did that he came around and is now not only in FULL support of it but brags to everyone how great homeschooling is!!!

My husband had a hard time feeling really comfortable with homeschooling, but it's something that I'd wanted to at least try since our oldest was 1.
So, last year he finally said we could give it a go and this year we're homeschooling the oldest for K and my husband loves it. Good luck on your trial! I'm sure you'll love LHTH!

Alissa,
Welcome! I also felt the desire to homeschool, even before I had children. Like you, my husband was NOT at all interested until just a few months ago, when he had a dramatic change of heart. All I can say is give it to God and He will take of it. My husband loves to tell everyone that we are homeschooling and is 100% behind me with it. I work outside the home so homeschooling can be a bit of challenge, but my husband steps in whenever I need him and he also picks up the slack around the house. I, thankfully, work at night so I can be home with my children (daughter 5 and son 1) during the day. This curriculum has been a tremendous blessing! I don't think that I'd be able to HS if it wasn't for HOD. May God Bless you and your family.

Well hello there my friend! Glad to see you're on here. Don't know if you know it, but M. was not on board at all with my grand ideas of homeschooling at first, or even up until just before we pulled Ben out of PS. I even wasn't sure! I had been thinking about it since Ellie was a Kindergartner! Slowly, but surely, over the few years of chaos in our family, I felt more and more led to homeschool. Just not sure when was the right time, or if I really believed I could do it (patience-wise!). But then, with all my research (
) I convnced myself. Then, M. and I talked and prayed, but he still had many concerns. The clencher was him seeing the undeniable change in Ben after only 3 short months of my homeschool "trial", in attitude especially, as he was back to having that joy in learning that he'd always had. We both became more confident that homeschooling was the absolute best we could give to our children, especially as a large family. AND, that I COULD do it. Three days into this school year, HSing 5 of the 7, with Nico tagging along when he wishes, I am loving it! We're still ironing out the scheduling details with so many kiddos, and 3 programs (BHFHG, LHFHG, and LHTH), but HOD makes it not only doable, but very enjoyable as well. All the kiddos are loving it! Welcome, and just be assured that if it is God's will that you homeschool your 3,then He will change J.'s heart in his own timing. And make it clear to YOU as well, either way.
The ladies on here are wise, kind, and so helpful. You will find lots of support as you begin whatever journey God has in store for you. And, of course, I'm just right down the road!
Lisa
