I am kind of thinking ahead for next year... already :D :D . I am a planner!!! Anyway, I was wondering if there is a lot of notebooking for science or history in Beyond.... and if so, how many separate notebooks might I need? Also, what are your techniques for practicing or writing the spelling words?

Thanks so much,
LeAnna :D

There is not really any notebooking in Beyond...that starts with Bigger...the next manual. You will need a 'notebook' to keep your student's work in...language arts, math, art projects, etc. As for spelling, Carrie has us write each word each week (10 words per week) on a separate index card. I always marked them with Beyond...and which Unit they were from. That way, I can re-use them when my younger ds gets to Beyond..in a couple of years. Like this: Beyond: Unit 1. The practice/techniques for the spelling are all in the manual and have worked very well for my daughter. I think you'll be pleased with the program. I was, and we are really enjoying Bigger...this year. :P

We made a poetry book of the copywork. We used handwriting paper first, and then moved to notebook paper that he decorated with small pictures relevant to the poems. Then we 3-hole punched all of the poems and tied them with yarn. He made a cover for it as well. We also used a big 3-ring binder with clear sheet protectors to slide his favorite papers in and had a neat portfolio of all of his favorite art projects, papers about the Storytime reading, neatest handwriting pages, etc. The spelling activities in Beyond... use index cards and a markerboard, and I'm amazed at how quickly the simple techniques used in the HOD lessons helped my son to do well with his spelling words. Doing Beyond... was a blast - I'm sure you'll love it!
