Doing LHTH twice?

I've been thinking about starting LHTH after my little guy turns 3 to give him some mommy time, and then doing it again when he is 4.5 or 5 and adding in some other thinkgs like the R&S ABC books. Would it be fun for him to do it twice? I don't have it so I wasn't sure if that would work or if it would be fun to do it twice. If it would be better to wait, I'm sure I can come up with fun things for him to do in the meantime.

You could definitely do it twice. If I were you, I would use the Bible and devotional that Carrie suggests for younger learners this time and then use the other Bible and devotional the second time around. Also, for some of the activities Carrie gives options for younger or older learners. So, your second time wouldn't be exactly the same and your DS would probably love to do it again anyway. We've only done a few weeks, but Samuel loves to go back and go over the fingerplays we've already done, repeat activities, etc. I think it would work out just fine.

You know, I was wondering if it would work to do one Bible/devotional the first time and the others the second time. I'm glad to get someone else's opinion that it might work. Also, I didn't know that there were options for olders and youngers. That's great! I wish I could start it tomorrow with him as I really feel that he needs something special with mommay, but I'm trying to make myself wait until he's 3. I was thinking we could do it 3 days/weeks until we're through with it and then start it over again 5 days/week for older preschool/kindergarten. I guess that might work then!

We only made it through unit 9 last year...and then I started over this year with my 4 yo. Now, my 2 yo is tagging along with us and I plan to do LHTH "for real" with him at 4. (I know my plans could always change, but that's my thinking now.

) Anyway, Allison has loved everything we've done a 2nd time so far even though she remembers it. They love repeating things at this age! I would say you could do it. Just so you know, if you decide to get the "younger" Bible, it doesn't have all of the stories in it. We love the Bible in Picture for Little Eyes, which has ALL of the stories. So, if it were me, I'd get that one Bible and change up the devotional and some of the activities where Carrie gives options.

Not every activity has options but I know that there have been a few. I know one of the things we just did was write the letters in his name on index cards and have him put them in order. For the olders or kids that already knew their name, she suggested doing their phone number instead. I also know that the Count on Me pages have different options -- younger kids count by ones and olders count by twos. There were a few art projects with different options too.

Very cool. I wasn't sure this would be doable but you ladies, as always, have encouraged me! I really may go ahead and start in January when he turns 3.

Ashley,
The great thing about LHTH is its flexibility. With one of my kiddos we went straight through it in a year. He was 4 at that time. With my next one we did it 2-3 times a week over two years. He was 3 when we started. With my next one, we'll most likely spread it out over 2 years too. It will work however you choose to do it!
You could also spread one day out over 2 days, doing a little bit each day. This way you'd read the Bible story one day and do a couple of the boxes. Then, the next day, you'd read the same story again and do the other couple of boxes. You'd have a daily session, but the plans would take 2 years.
Or, you could repeat the program with the upper level devotional and upper level Bible. That certainly makes it feel different. So, it's up to you!
We pray you'll enjoy LHTH as much as we do!
Blessings,
Carrie
