Sneak Peek: New Middle School Writing Programs

Post by RookieAce » Fri May 26, 2023 10:02 am

Writing & Rhetoric in Creation to Christ

Creation to Christ now has a new writing program! Writing and Rhetoric offers a creative, step-by-step approach to writing that assumes students learn best by reading excellent literature and by growing their writing skills through imitation! Each Writing and Rhetoric book includes a Student Text and a Teacher Guide.

Lessons start with Book 1: Fable, which teaches the practice of close reading and comprehension, summarizing a story aloud and in writing, using description and dialogue, and incorporating point of view. Next, students move up to Book 2: Narrative’s lessons, which focus on the beginning/middle/end, written/oral narration, lengthier writing assignments, the main idea, conflict, dialogue and description, given topics, and more! Student Texts begin with narration of the story. Then, the "Talk About It" section provides students with questions that require personal application and critical thinking. The "Go Deeper" questions include multiple-choice questions that cover writing concepts and vocabulary. Finally, "Writing Time" exercises integrate copywork, dictation, "sentence play," and rewriting exercises. Teacher guides include the complete student text, answer keys, teacher's notes, and explanations, as well as descriptions and examples of what excellent student writing should look like.

Writer's Goldmine (for boys) and Writer's Roundup (for girls) in Missions to Modern Marvels

Missions to Modern Marvels now offers two new amazing writing programs! Get ready for a rip-roaring ride through the world of writing with the Writers Gold Mine Writing Workbook (for boys) and the Writers Roundup Writing Workbook (for girls)! Each of these writing programs benefits young authors in all areas of interest and at all skill levels. The lessons are primarily designed to encourage children to learn to love to write fiction stories and to want to dig deeper to further develop their stories.

This inspirational Christian resource includes guided, age-appropriate lessons with good foundational writing lessons. Each workbook includes a link to watch ten short, optional video lessons that enrich the writing lessons presented. Additionally, students can watch a two-part "bonus" video on how to format and upload their stories. Whether students simply write a short story or choose to write a novel, this creative writing program benefits both! The last chapter regarding publication is completely optional. So, boys – grab your writer's pick, shovel, and gold pan… and let’s mine some stories! And girls – get ready to saddle up and grab your lasso… let’s rustle up some stories!
