What year was the most recent edition published? And what has changed from the edition before that?

There is a new edition expected, in color, this month, I believe, along with the new HOD-published NBing pages. It has had to be postponed several times for various reasons, so I hope this is still on track. Hopefully Carrie or Julie will see this new thread soon!
Before that, I'm not sure when the most recent change was, but no changes were big ones - an occasional book that was reprinted, so page numbers changed, and originally, one book (about Noah's Ark) was dropped completely, as there was no replacement avaialble when the book went out of print. But there have really been no major changes to Preparing at all.
If you're looking at used, I would not hesitate to buy any complete package (as long as the seller bought all books from HOD, or will ensure for you that they all match the guide - ISBN or publishing info matches what is listed in the Introduction).

Thanks for your interest in using Heart of Dakota, and thanks Rice for answering! I'll just provide a few details. The PHFHG guide has copyrights of 2008 and 2015. New copyrights are only reissued for bigger changes, not just for reprintings. We don't keep track of all the updates, as it is confusing. Our current Heart of Dakota guides match the resources we carry. When you order from Heart of Dakota, your guides/resources should match, which makes your homeschool day be the best it can be! We also, as a small family business, greatly appreciate and depend on your support ordering from us as well. In speaking with Carrie, the new guide and notebooking pages will be completed in late Dec. 2020 or Jan. 2021. Be sure to sign up for our email/newsletter if you haven't, as this is where the release of the new notebooking pages will be announced...

Carrie has been hard at work on the notebooking pages each day, and the progress she is making and the beauty of the work is truly amazing to me! Well worth the wait - hope that helps!
In Christ,
Julie

Julie, I am so glad to hear this! I am planning on using Preparing next year with my youngest, who will be in 4th grade. I used the original Preparing before with my older kiddos and it was already great. Can't wait to see the newest version.

Thanks, Lourdes! The notebooking pages are turning out to be so lovely - I can't wait to see the finished product! I'm so glad you are going to get to enjoy them. Also, just have to say, love having you here - brings back good memories of where this all started.
In Christ,
Julie

Hello,
My second son will start the guide preparing in Jan. I was going to use the old guide with him. Is there a huge difference between the old revision and the new one? Will some of the books still be used. I know I have all the books, even the ones for the expansion package, for the older revision. I'm currently purchasing the Rev2Rev package for my oldest son, so with our budget I'm unable to purchase a whole new package. If its just a few books I wouldn't mind buying the new revision. Just trying to get a feel for what route i want to take. Thanks

Not sure if you saw Carrie's recent post on the new PHFHG guide and notebook pages - I've pasted it below...
We will post an update on our weekly newsletter, so if you are signed up for that you will receive information about the new notebooking pages. We are thrilled that they are finally done!!! We still have to do a final proof of them and get them off to the printer, but they are truly beautiful and will make Preparing Hearts an even better guide. It truly is one of my favorite guides already! The guide itself is already at the printer, but with COVID... printing turn-around is a bit slower. We are likely looking at end of December as a ship date for the new color guide and full-color notebooking pages.
The reason it took so long to get the notebooks done is that I actually ended up having to make two notebooks for Preparing Hearts! We needed two notebooks because in addition to the "Reading About History" assignments, there are "Independent History Study" assignments such as drawing, and copywork, and notebooking that go with the separate "Deluxe Package" set of books. This is a unique package for Preparing Hearts that is used to incrementally train students in the independent skills they will need for Creation to Christ the next year. So that particular package needed its own set of notebooking pages.
Then, we have the written narrations, vocabulary, and timeline parts of the Preparing Hearts guide - which all go with the "Reading About History" box of plans and the Economy Package of books. So, we combined those three areas into a second notebook with three sections - one for each of those areas. It turned out amazing! After using Preparing Hearts over and over with our own boys, I am excited about how these two notebooks will make this guide even better!
Of course, families can still use their older guides, but if they desire to use the new notebooking pages, it would be best if they purchase the new guide. For all those families who purchased the Preparing Hearts guide from us previously, you can return your old guide (using a postage paid label we provide) and receive 50% off the new color guide. Just contact us and let us know you want to make the swap, and we will look up your previous order and then mail out your postage paid label to return your old guide.
Blessings,
Carrie
