Things are going very good!

Post by yayadaisy » Tue Aug 12, 2008 4:20 pm

WE have started BLHFHG with my 8 and 6 yrs. and LHTH with my 5 and 3 yr. Everything is going well. I just love HOD! It is so easy to do. I just run over what we are doing the next day quickly hardly any preparing. We are on Unit 1 day 5. I am very happy with everything. The only thing that is hard is my 16month old wants to be held the hold time and then starts to grab at things and when I put him down he screams and cries. I need to figure out something fun for him to do. I have tried to have the others keep him busy while I work with one child. Not working out so well yet. Will just keep trying.

Glad things are going so well! I know there is a topic on what to do with a toddler...but mine is busy crawling over me so I not able to look it up at this moment! :)

Sheila,

I'm so glad you are having a good start to your year! It can be quite something to harness those little toddlers! :D We'll be schooling with our 2 year old along for the ride this year too! His favorite word is "No" or "Ow" right now, so I think we'll be in the same boat as you! They always require training once school starts up too, don't they!

Blessings,
Carrie

So glad everything is going well! :D I have a suggestion for you with your little one. Why not have a bog plastic box of things to play with ONLY during school to be a reward for letting you teach. Your toddler gets the box when you are doing school. Inside have some toys tupperware that kind of thing. Stuff they can play with that does not require you watching that they will not eat it and things that do not have a sound to them to distract you. And try to find the kinds of things that can destract them for a long time like blocks, or things that engage without making noise. Every once in a while take a break and show them something fun to do with the things in the box, then go back to work. When you are not doing school or take a break the box goes away until the next time you do school. Also I am all for every once in a while plugging them up to a godly or educational video to watch. Vege tales was my friend when I was homeschooling with toddlers. I kept the noise down and had it where my other kids could not see it but I could see my little one to make sure they were not getting into trouble. Another idea one of those huge gated areas that you can fill full of things for them to do but they can't wander off. Kind of like a huge play pen. But you have to make it fun and only use it for the time you really need it and never the rest of the day. Then it becomes a play area they actually enjoy. HTH and glad you are loving it! :D

I don't have any advice for you but sounds like water2wine had some great ideas!

Great adice ladies! I still just can't believe how much easier HOD flows than the other program we used last year. Just loving it more each day! Now for my sweet baby who just loves his mommy all the time. I will try some of your idea's wish me luck!
