I am wondering if my son (13), who has overcome many mild learning issues can possibly handle college. Math is the main issue with which I am concerned at this point. He has overcome dysgraphia and writes well. He does have a hard time understanding and analyzing poetry. But in math, he does not know his basic multiplication facts and can't seem to learn them by any means. As he progresses through math, I am very concerned that he just won't be able to do advanced math. factoring, fractions, decimals, etc.

I was no math genius, but I was able to score high enough on my composite ACT to get into a great private college and graduate with honors. But I had to take 2 stats classes, and I struggled through those.

Can he go to college if he is severely math challenged?

It depends on what he wants to major in. If we wants to be a STEM major then probably not. However there are plenty of other majors that don't require math skills. I would look at the community college route to start with. They often do their own testing and don't require the ACT. The one here does the accuplacer test just to figure out placement, not for entrance. Also I would heavily document every modification you make for him because he will need modifications in college for his LD's. You will most likely need an evaluation from a Neuropsychologist his freshmen of sophomore year of high school in order to justify accomodations.
