MTMM Retention

My 8th grade daughter in MTMM is VERY bright, but is lazy. She will do as little as she can get by with unless it is something that She is interested in. She is a gifted sketch artist and spends hours a day on a single sketch...getting it perfect. She is retaining NOTHING. She does well on her assignments, but the next day she can't remember what the New Deal was , any programs it included, or what president started it. I need ideas!! HELP!

Have you tried having her narrate by creating a sketch of the reading? You could ask for a certain number of boxes, done like a cartoon, outlining the storyline, or something more like a mind map (a quick google search shows what these are like - VERY good for someone who learns visually like my oldest, who does not do well with lists/linear thinking).
Oral "this is what happened" type narrations, are not the only way to narrate, and depending on the child may or may not be very effective. Googling "narration jar" might give you other ideas that could work. Can you let us know after trying some of those: does she have better retention?
That's only one idea, but the only one I have right now.
